Job Summary:

The Red Hat Performance and Scale Engineering team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to drive critical, OS-level performance testing and optimization work for Red Hat In-vehicle OS (RHIVOS). You will leverage deep technical expertise in RHEL and RHIVOS, including kernel tuning and performance benchmarking, to ensure RHIVOS meets the performance domains within the automotive industry. This role requires an engineer capable of taking full ownership of projects, working independently to develop and implement performance strategies, and presenting technical data and analysis directly to key internal and external customers and stakeholders. You will be instrumental in ensuring RHIVOS meets stringent performance and scale requirements, contributing to a vibrant open source culture and promoting innovation within Red Hat engineering.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Performance Testing & Benchmarking: Design, execute, and analyze OS-level performance benchmarks and workloads, including RHEL/RHIVOS kernel tuning and optimization.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate technical results and best practices to customers and internal teams.

  • Analysis & Metrics: Conduct statistical analysis and utilize monitoring tools like Grafana, PCP, and Prometheus.

  • Ownership: Drive projects to completion with a focus on high-quality, repeatable deliverables.

  • Collaboration: Partner with Engineering and Product Management to resolve performance issues and characterize RHIVOS on various hardware.

  • AI Tool Integration: Utilization of AI tools in Software development lifecycle, leveraging Agents and LLMs to support Performance engineering activities

Required Skills:

  • Expert in OS-level performance benchmarking, low-level testing, kernel tuning, and RHEL/RHIVOS optimization.

  • Strong familiarity with RHEL/Linux operating systems.

  • Python expertise, scripting, automation, and Ansible.

  • Experienced in presenting technical analysis to stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in leveraging and guiding AI tools (LLMs, code assistants)

  • 7+ years in software engineering.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

  • Proven project ownership and ability to work independently.

  • Strong organization, documentation, and decision-making skills.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management.
