Job description

Pay: $23 - $26

Summary:


The Painter needs to be able to properly move, set up, prepare, and coat equipment and their related components made up of multiple types of surfaces to the paint manufacture’s specifications. This position will require the use of painting, sandblasting, and shop equipment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Remove grease, dirt, paint, and rust from vehicle surfaces in preparation for paint application, using abrasives, solvents, brushes, blowtorches, pressure washer, or sandblasters
  • Perform sandblast and other surface preparation and painting duties
  • Maintain sandblasting equipment such as hoses, nozzles, and safety equipment
  • Set up and operate painting equipment: airless, conventional, brush and roller
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation
  • Maintain painting equipment: hoses, pumps, pressure tanks, spray guns and tips
  • Ability to apply coatings with various types of applicators such as HPLV, Airless, brush and roller as required by coatings manufacturer
  • Ability to perform body work to repair vehicle
  • Complete work orders, charge parts, charge labor, and other required documents using computer, manuals, parts book, and maintenance codes
  • Wash equipment as needed
  • Drive service vehicle to pick up parts from outside vendors
  • Drive vehicles within company property
  • Attend all safety required meetings and perform all work as per OSHA, State and Federal guidelines
  • Operate a variety of stationary and portable power tools common to mechanics such as drill presses, grinders, impact wrenches, welders, torches
  • Sweep, mop, and pick up trash/debris and dispose in dumpster

  • Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position

Qualifications:


Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of the following areas: operating sandblasters, sanders, prepping surfaces for paint application, painting vehicles and components and body work


Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a production paint shop – preferable use of metallic paints with auto finishing
  • Demonstrated competency of painting experience prepping and painting a variety of tractors in medium and heavy equipment applications required


Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to read and understand paint manufacturers data sheets
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to operate sand blast and painting equipment safely with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prepare surfaces and apply paint coatings to manufacturer's requirements with minimal supervision
  • Positive work attitude and ability to work closely with other technicians, drivers, management, and vendors to solve problems efficiently


Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to perform job functions under extreme weather conditions and temperatures
  • Must have manual dexterity and physical agility to be able to spend long hours working beneath a vehicle and lying or standing in awkward positions
  • Work setting in an automotive garage
  • Potential hazards include dust, diesel, fumes, solvents, oil spills, and electrical equipment within OSHA regulations
  • Wearing proper safety equipment is a shop requirement


Physical Requirements:

  • Reach up to 24” horizontally at a height of 44” and pull with a force of 100lb
  • Pushing/pulling vertically at a height of 47” with a force of 55-100lb
  • Pulling vertically at a height of 80” with a force of 15lb
  • Crawling indoors on a smooth surface for 10 ft
  • Manually transport heavy truck parts (35lbs to 95lbs) to and from the work area
  • Front carry up to 95lb for 25 ft
  • Utilize a variety of hand tools including wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and pry bars with right and left-hand grip with a force of 80lb
  • Pushing/pulling horizontally and vertically at a self-selected height with a force of 100lb
  • Right and left-hand coordination
