Job description

Sandblaster / Blasting Technician

Company: Barrio Logan Powder Coating
Location: San Diego, CA (Barrio Logan)
Job Type: Full-Time or Part-Time / Flexible Hours Within Reason
Schedule: Flexible weekday hours. Saturday will transition into a regular, permanent shift upon completion of your on-the-job training (OJT) with our current staff.

About Us

Located in the heart of San Diego, Barrio Logan Powder Coating is a custom job shop serving automotive, residential, industrial, and marine clients. A quality powder coating job relies entirely on a clean, properly prepped surface. We are looking for a focused, hard-working Sandblaster to join our team and help strip down metal and prepare our customers' projects for coating.

Position Overview

We are looking for someone who already knows how to handle a blast nozzle and manage media. Some prior sandblasting or media blasting experience is required. Broader industrial shop experience is not necessary, as we will train you on our specific facility layout, safety protocols, and workflow.

This position offers flexible hours within reason during weekdays to accommodate school or family commitments, provided core production goals are hit. You will train alongside our experienced team, and once your training is complete, Saturday will become one of your regular, scheduled weekly shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Media & Sandblasting: Operate industrial blast cabinets and walk-in blast booths to remove rust, corrosion, old paint, and surface grime from metal items.
  • Surface Inspection: Inspect blasted parts to ensure a clean, raw metal profile free of tight pockets of rust or old coatings before passing parts to the coating line.
  • Material Handling: Safely load, unload, and maneuver parts (automotive rims, chassis, structural steel, patio furniture) into blasting areas using racks and carts.
  • Equipment & Shop Support: Monitor blast pot pressures, assist with changing worn nozzles, clean dust collector filters, and safely load or recycle abrasive media.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Some prior hands-on experience specifically with sandblasting or media blasting is required.
  • Physical Strength & Stamina: Sandblasting is a physical, demanding job. You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, hold high-pressure blast hoses, and work comfortably inside an enclosed booth wearing protective safety gear.
  • Focus & Safety Mindset: Ability to maintain steady concentration to ensure a part's surface is evenly blasted, with strict adherence to safety protocols (including wearing air-supplied respirators, hearing protection, and blast suits).
  • Schedule Alignment: Must be fully available to transition to a regular Saturday shift once your initial training period is wrapped up.

Why Work With Us?

  • Flexible Weekdays: Work with us to design a weekday schedule within reason that respects your outside commitments.
  • Trade Growth: Refine your skills in industrial sandblasting, media matching, and surface prep in a factory-certified facility.
