Auto Mechanic Helper 

The Auto Mechanic Helper is an entry level position, in which the person performs maintenance and repairs on automobiles and trucks and other duties as essential functions. The position is distinct from the Auto Mechanic position in that the Auto Mechanic Helper is not required to possess the PA Safely and Emission Inspection Licenses, nor a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement on the date of hire. However, the position is required to obtain all three licenses within twelve months of hire.


Starting pay rate $23.88 p/hr.- non negotiable 

Adjust, repair, and maintain cars and trucks performing the following duties:

 

Perform all duties of preventative maintenance on light duty vehicles.

Transport vehicles for maintenance, repair, fueling, and washing.

Repair and adjust brakes.

Mount and dismounts tires and snow cables.

Repair or replace wiring.

Repair and align front end assemblies.

Tune up engines and repair and diagnoses ignition systems.

Use various hand and power tools, including precision gauges, electrical instruments, and computers for the purpose of vehicle diagnostics, updating equipment, and performing administrative job functions (e.g. email communication, Time Labor Management, work orders, parts and diagnostics research).

Assist Auto, Equipment, Air Tool, and Welder Mechanics and the Working Foremen, as required.

Diagnose road break downs and make necessary repairs.

Perform other work when operating conditions need it.


High school diploma/GED is required. 

Trade school certificate in auto mechanics, or equivalent experience required.

Must have and maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Must obtain the Pennsylvania Safety and Emission Inspection License within six (6) months of hire.

Upon obtaining the Pennsylvania Safety and Emission Inspection Licenses, must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License with Tanker Endorsement and Class 7 State Inspection License within twelve (12) months of hire.
