What is automotive graphic design?

Automotive graphic design is a specialized field that focuses on creating visual graphics and branding for vehicles and the automotive industry. This can include designing car wraps, decals, logos, advertisements, manuals, and digital content related to vehicles. Automotive graphic designers combine creativity with technical knowledge to produce visuals that enhance the appearance of vehicles or communicate a brand's message effectively. They often work with automotive companies, custom shops, or marketing agencies to bring their concepts to life.

How does an automotive graphic designer typically collaborate with engineering and marketing teams during a vehicle launch project?

Automotive graphic designers play a key role in vehicle launch projects by working closely with engineering teams to ensure that their designs are both visually appealing and technically feasible for application on vehicles. They also collaborate with marketing teams to align visual assets with brand messaging and campaign goals. Regular meetings and feedback sessions are common to balance creative ideas with practical constraints, such as materials, manufacturing processes, and safety regulations. This cross-functional teamwork helps ensure that graphic elements, such as decals, wraps, and digital assets, meet both aesthetic standards and functional requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an automotive graphic designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Automotive Graphic Designer, you need strong visual design skills, creativity, and a solid understanding of automotive branding, usually supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Proficiency with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and knowledge of vehicle wrap and print production processes are essential. Attention to detail, innovation, and effective communication help you interpret client needs and collaborate with production teams. These abilities ensure compelling, accurate designs that strengthen brand identity and meet the aesthetic and functional demands of the automotive industry.

Job description

Galpin Motors, a leader in the automotive industry, is looking for a talented and experienced Graphic Designer to join our dynamic advertising team.

At Galpin Motors, our culture is built on history, family, and a genuine love for what we do. We started back in 1946 with a tiny showroom that could only hold three vehicles. Today, we are proud to be the #1 volume Ford dealer in the world!  While we are incredibly proud of that milestone, we are even prouder of the vibrant, supportive team that made it possible. We believe in working hard, celebrating our successes together, and keeping things genuinely fun every single day.

Opportunities to shift your career into high gear with our in-house Marketing and Advertising team don't come around often because our team members genuinely love growing their careers here. We’re expanding right now for the best possible reason: our business is firing on all cylinders, and looking for the next superfly designer.  If you are ready for a fast-paced, collaborative environment where creativity, history, and a passion for what we do collide, this is your moment. We don’t just sell cars; we create joy, excitement, and rewarding, lifelong careers.

The Role: Fuel Our Visual Brand

As our new Digital Graphic & Creative Designer, you will be the creative engine driving the visual identity across iconic dealership brands from Ford, Honda, and Mazda to luxury names such as Porsche, Land Rover, Volvo, Aston Martin, and Lotus. You’ll collaborate closely with our Director of Advertising and Retail Marketing Manager to bring colorful campaigns to life.

The majority of your day-to-day will focus on high-impact digital creative assets, driving engaging email marketing campaigns, and designing eye-catching in-store print POP materials.

You will also put on your digital architect hat to provide light support for our website's UX/UI visual design, ensuring our online guest experience looks as stunning as our actual showrooms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Email Campaign Innovation: Utilize Adobe Creative Suite, Figma and Designmodo to design high-performing, responsive emails that captivate our audience, adhere to best practices, and drive conversions.
  • Web & Front-End Development: Develop front-end web assets using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and basic WordPress development. Collaborate with developers to ensure seamless integration of design and back-end functionality. Optimize websites for SEO, performance, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness. Shopify experience is a plus!
  • Digital & Print Mastery: Design visually compelling, user-friendly assets for email marketing, social media, and digital advertising, as well as premium print POP materials for sales, events, and showroom merchandising.
  • Brand Stewardship: Maintain a cohesive, premium visual identity across multiple distinct dealership brands.
What You Bring to the Fast Lane:
  • Experience: 3–5 years of professional graphic design experience (or a Bachelor’s degree in Art/Graphic Design).
  • The Toolbox: Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma, Designmodo, and familiarity with WordPress and macOS.
  • Web Savvy: A solid grasp of digital asset optimization, responsive design, and basic front-end layout principles, ensuring your designs look great on any screen.
  • The Vibe: An entrepreneurial spirit, a collaborative mindset (experience with Monday.com or Constant Contact is a plus!), and a passion for hitting deadlines in a dynamic retail environment.

Galpin Benefits

  •  Family owned and operated

  • Competitive compensation

  • Full Benefits after 30 days of employment including Health, Vision, & Dental Insurance

  • 401k plan with match

  • Paid vacation

  • Life insurance

  • Employee vehicle purchase program

  • Custom tailored onboarding and cross training programs

At Galpin, we believe that a diverse workforce is a strength to be celebrated. We value the unique contributions that you can bring to our team in terms of education, opinions, culture, ethnicity, race, sex, gender identity and expression, nation of origin, age, languages spoken, veterans status, color, religion, disability, sexual orientation and beliefs.
