Position Overview
The Programming and Operations Director supports the Isothermal Community College mission by overseeing station programming, production, and operations. This position provides direct support to the Managing Director of Radio Operations and is responsible for developing the station's sound and image, ensuring quality programming, and maintaining compliance with FCC regulations.
 
Responsibilities
Responsibilities

 Leadership, Administration, and Resource Management
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and make ongoing budget recommendations. 
  • Assist the Director of Radio Operations in determining staffing needs and cost justification for full-time, part-time, and volunteer resources. 
  • Manage hiring and selection committees and employment processes in alignment with College policies and procedures. 
  • Develop and implement station policies consistent with College and operational requirements. 
  • Supervise and support station staff, including coaching, aircheck sessions, and annual performance evaluations. 
  • Coordinate with engineering resources for routine maintenance and special projects. 
  • Maintain station public files and compile required quarterly issues and programs reports. 
 
Strategic Development, Community Engagement, and Institutional Relations
  • Engage in strategic and long-range planning to support continuous improvement of station and College operations. 
  • Actively participate in collaborative fundraising initiatives. 
  • Represent the station within the local community and with state and national organizations, serving as a liaison for institutional partnerships and cooperative ventures. 
  • Participate in on-campus and community-based station promotions and College events. 
  • Foster relationships that support station growth, visibility, and alignment with the College's mission and objectives.
 
Programming, Broadcasting, and Audience Development
  • Ensure the overall quality and consistency of WNCW-FM and online stream programming, including local content. 
  • Execute weekly on-air programming and coordinate coverage for staff absences and emergencies. 
  • Develop relationships with record labels, promoters, venues, media representatives, and industry partners to enhance station visibility and programming opportunities. 
  • Develop and oversee public service campaigns that support the station's mission and audience needs. 
  • Create and implement promotional strategies to increase listenership and membership support. 
  • Collaborate with Business Operations on fundraising initiatives, station premiums, advertising, and marketing plans. 
  • Provide leadership and training to ensure effective operation of broadcasting and automation systems. 
  • Coordinate programming schedules, syndicated content, playlists, and volunteer host recruitment and training.
 
Other Duties and Operational Support
  • Coordinate with college personnel to support institutional initiatives and service needs. 
  • Work with contracted engineering staff to identify and resolve technical issues. 
  • Maintain on-call availability for technical and broadcast emergencies. 
  • Support the ongoing operation, maintenance, and enhancement of station technology and systems. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree (Required) 
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in radio broadcast operations, (Required)
  • Experience with automation required (Required)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (Preferred)
  • Experience with AudioVAULT, (Preferred)
  • Experience with NPR's Content Depot delivery system, (Preferred)
  • Experience with audio editing software, Adobe Audition (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of public broadcasting and previous radio experience, (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of and experience with on-air promotion methods and techniques, (Preferred)
  • Experience with customer service, (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of, or experience with, streaming and pod casting (Preferred)
