Controls and Automation Engineer

Columbia, MD

Description

Impact Automation is looking for Junior and Senior Controls and Automation Engineers capable of performing a range of duties to support and accelerate the integration of material handling systems into customer facilities.  

This role involves:

· Developing software for PLCs, HMIs, and IPCs.

· Installing, testing, and troubleshooting material handling systems.

· Supporting commissioning and startup activities.

· Collaborating cross-functionally with mechanical and electrical engineers, sales, and project management from project conception through post-installation support.

This is a hands-on, full-project-lifecycle role for engineers who want to see their work directly IMPACT operational success.

Responsibilities

· Program Rockwell PLCs

· Program HMI systems primarily in Ignition

· Assist in troubleshooting electromechanical systems

· Contribute to design documentation, plans, and technical drawings

· Provide on-site support for commissioning, training, and startup

Requirements

· B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university – OR – equivalent work experience

· Ability to read and understand panel designs, electrical schematics, and system layouts in AutoCAD 2D

· Must have effective communication (verbal and written) and have the desire to build strong relationships with engineering groups, customers, suppliers, and subcontractors

· Must be detail oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines while working with project management and other engineering groups

· Occasional weekend, holiday, or overtime work may be required as part of a rotating support schedule

Bonus Qualifications

· 5+ years of controls or automation experience, preferably with Rockwell platforms

· Industry experience with material handling equipment or systems

· Experience in the use of CODESYS

· Experience with networking, PC controls, and operator displays

· Mechanical design experience in Autodesk Inventor or similar design software
