Position Description
The Automation Manager is the technical owner for building scalable business systems, evaluating and implementing software across the enterprise, and exploring how artificial intelligence can be applied to Constellation's operations - with an initial emphasis on the finance function. The role converts manual, repetitive work into durable automated processes, serves as the internal point person for software evaluation and deployment, and partners with Finance, IT, and Business Intelligence to bring emerging capabilities into day-to-day use.
This role is hands-on and pragmatic. Success looks like scalable systems that reduce dependency on any single person, well-chosen and well-implemented software tools that earn their cost, and a growing internal capability in AI and automation that expands what the business can do.
Key Responsibilities
Build Scalable Business Systems
  • Design, build, and maintain automations that eliminate manual work across finance, operations, payroll, fleet, safety, job cost, and administrative functions.
  • Build and maintain API integrations between Viewpoint Vista and third-party systems.
  • Improve existing processes and workflows through automation, removing single-points-of-failure and manual handoffs.
  • Partner with functional Managers across the Finance, Resource, and Controls verticals to identify and prioritize opportunities.

Software Evaluation & Implementation
  • Lead the evaluation of enterprise software across the business, including active opportunities such as resource planning platforms.
  • Develop business cases, conduct vendor assessments, and drive procurement decisions.
  • Own software implementation end-to-end: configuration, integration, user training, and adoption.
  • Maintain the enterprise software roadmap for Constellation in partnership with IT.

AI Exploration & Application
  • Learn Constellation's business - particularly finance and accounting processes - and identify practical opportunities where AI can improve efficiency, accuracy, or decision quality.
  • Pilot AI applications such as document processing, reporting enhancement, anomaly detection, and workflow intelligence, with an initial emphasis on finance workflows (AP, AR, close, FP&A, job cost).
  • Build internal AI literacy and provide guidance to functional Managers considering AI-enabled tools.
  • Keep the organization informed on the relevant state of the art, separate useful capability from hype.

Viewpoint Vista Optimization
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for Viewpoint Vista, the organization's single-instance ERP.
  • Develop and maintain custom SSRS reports and Vista workflows.
  • Optimize Vista configuration and data flows across all operating entities.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary: $95,000 - $110,000, commensurate with experience.
  • 401(k) with 6% employer match.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance.
  • Paid time off, company holidays.
Working Conditions
Standard office environment based in Topeka, Kansas, with occasional travel to operating business unit locations across the region.
About Constellation Service Company
Constellation Service Company (CSC) is the shared-services platform supporting the operating business units of DM Gary Holding Company. Constellation delivers finance, resources, and controls functions to a portfolio of construction and contracting businesses under a single Viewpoint Vista ERP instance. The Automation function sits within the Controls vertical and exists to help the business scale through better systems, well-chosen software, and a growing internal capability in automation and AI.
Position Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business, engineering, or a related field - or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in business systems, process automation, enterprise software implementation, or a similar technical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more business process automation platforms (Power Automate, UiPath, Zapier, Make, n8n, or similar).
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and report development (SSRS, Power BI, or similar).
  • Experience with enterprise ERP systems and ERP-to-third-party integrations.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new business domains quickly and translate business problems into durable technical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with Viewpoint Vista (strongly preferred).
  • Exposure to finance and accounting processes (AP, AR, Financial Reporting, FP&A, job cost).
  • Experience in construction, professional services, or another multi-entity operating environment.
  • Practical familiarity with AI/ML tooling - OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure AI, Microsoft Copilot, or equivalent.
  • Experience leading software evaluation, procurement, and vendor negotiation.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior technical staff.
  • Proven ability to build trust with executives, peer managers, and hands-on staff simultaneously.

Equal Opportunity Employer
Constellation Service Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer, complies with Executive Order 11246, and takes affirmative action to ensure that qualified applicants are employed, and that employees are treated during employment, without regard to race, color, religion/creed, national origin, gender, or sex, marital status, age, disability, use of a guide dog or service animal, sexual orientation, military/veteran status, or any other status protected by Federal or State law or local ordinance.
