Job description

Martin Marietta is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join the Enterprise Engineering Services Team as part of the Automation Group. The Automation Group is responsible for providing world-class plant automation for the enterprise through projects, operations support, and operational excellence initiatives.

Location:The position is based at Martin Marietta’s headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Responsibilities:

  • Being a good Wingman in supporting Martin Marietta’s safety culture and regulatory compliance by always adhering to and monitoring for compliance with the company’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshooting and supporting the existing automated systems including but not limited to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and Operator Interface Terminals (OITs).
  • Design and program the controls for new projects.
  • Use PAC Machine Edition software to program and troubleshoot Emerson/GE PLCs.
  • Use Studio 5000 along with other Rockwell software programs to troubleshoot Rockwell PLCs.
  • Use TIA Portal to be able to troubleshoot Siemens PLCs and Simocode Starters.
  • Use Aveva System Platform and Classic InTouch HMI software to program and troubleshoot automated plants.
  • Participate in the On-Call rotation with the rest of the Automation Group.

Requirements:

  • Have at least a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis on controls or power.
  • Minimum 4 years of development experience with Aveva (Wonderware) System Platform.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as an automation engineer programming Emerson (formerly GE), Rockwell, Modicon, or Siemens PLCs.
  • Experience with ladder logic, AutoCAD, basic networking, windows operating systems, 3 phase motor control equipment, 120VAC 24VDC controls.
  • Able to travel to assist with the installation of controls, perform the checkout and commissioning of automation Installations at various company locations.
  • Are innovative and knowledgeable in applying electrical/control improvements to plant processes.
  • Have the ability to work extended hours as required.
  • Have excellent communication and leadership skills, including ability to understand and provide assistance over the phone for electrical issues. Strong organizational, time management, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to document technical procedures and processes is a must.
  • Are motivated, a team player, and be able to keep up with the latest technology.
  • Are willing to travel overnight 25-50% of the time depending on the project. This includes some international and weekend travel.
