Job description

Fall 2026 Internship: This position is located at our Frisco, TX site.  Expected program dates are September 14 - December 4, 2026. Anticipated working hours will be 20-30 per week. Final hours and schedule will be determined between the intern and their manager.

Introduction

Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is seeking an Automation Engineering Intern to support the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of automation solutions for enterprise retail environments. 

The intern will work with experienced engineers to enhance automation frameworks, support software releases and installations, troubleshoot technical issues, and improve the scalability and maintainability of automated testing solutions. This role provides hands-on experience in software engineering, test automation, DevOps, and AI-assisted development. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and enhance reusable automation framework components. 
  • Create and maintain automated test scenarios using Java, Selenium, Cucumber, Gherkin, JUnit, and Maven. 
  • Support JAR updates, dependency management, version control, and software packaging. 
  • Assist with framework installation, configuration, testing, and validation. 
  • Design automated tests for browser-based retail applications and business workflows. 
  • Investigate and troubleshoot automation failures, environment issues, and software dependencies. 
  • Execute and debug automated tests in Docker-based environments. 
  • Improve framework performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability. 
  • Create technical documentation, installation guides, and troubleshooting procedures. 
  • Help define an effective support and maintenance model. 
  • Use AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude, Copilot, or similar platforms, to accelerate automation development, test generation, troubleshooting, and documentation. 
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and professional services teams. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. 
  • Foundational programming experience in Java or another object-oriented language. 
  • Understanding of software development, testing, and debugging principles. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to learn new technologies and work effectively in a collaborative environment. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Exposure to Selenium WebDriver, Cucumber, Gherkin, JUnit, or Maven. 
  • Familiarity with Git, APIs, Agile development, or CI/CD pipelines. 
  • Experience with Docker, Linux, containerized applications, or cloud environments. 
  • Familiarity with Java 8 or later. 
  • Experience using AI coding assistants or generative AI development tools. 
  • Interest in retail technology, enterprise software, automation, or quality engineering.
