Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Process Controls / Automation Engineer to join an established engineering team supporting the continued automation and modernization of a specialty chemical manufacturing facility in the Birmingham, Alabama area.

This position will focus heavily on PLC and process control programming, HMI/SCADA systems, instrumentation, and plant automation. The facility utilizes Rockwell automation technology, including Allen-Bradley PLCs and PlantPAx.

This is primarily an office-based engineering position with periodic hands-on work in the manufacturing facility and minimal travel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems.
  • Program and support Rockwell/Allen-Bradley automation platforms.
  • Support PlantPAx and other process control/DCS applications.
  • Develop and maintain HMI and SCADA applications.
  • Support process instrumentation and control system integration.
  • Assist with automation projects and ongoing plant modernization initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot control system and industrial communication network issues.
  • Work with engineering, operations, and maintenance personnel to improve process reliability and performance.
  • Provide technical support for manufacturing automation and process control systems.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of post-college controls, automation, or process control engineering experience.
  • Hands-on PLC programming experience.
  • Experience working in chemical manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, process manufacturing, or a closely related industrial environment.

  • Experience in or familiarity with PSM-regulated manufacturing environments.
