Technical Solutions Inc. is currently seeking an Senior Automation/Controls Engineer for our client. 


Job Summary
In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the incumbent is responsible for project automation activities, including PLC programming, network component integration, system commissioning, and technical support. They also contribute to the design and optimization of installations to ensure the efficient progress of projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with project managers and the existing technical team (automation, mechanical, software, electrical) to develop advanced material handling systems for automating the storage, transport and management of garments on hanger for global e-commerce platforms.
  • System Development and Prototyping: Play an active role in system development, involving both computer-aided design work and hands-on experimentation in the company's dedicated laboratory to test and optimize GOH handling equipment and subsystems.
  • Commissioning and Support: Carry out system commissioning and provide ongoing technical support as a key resource for the efficient operation and optimization of installations.
  • Technical Project Management: Handle end-to-end automation tasks, including programming industrial programmable logic controllers (PLCs), managing networking components, and overseeing the design of electrical panels and controls.
  • Collaborative Innovation: Actively participate in brainstorming sessions for the project, contributing to idea generation and problem-solving.
  • Mechanical Design: Occasionally collaborate with mechanical engineers to assist in the development and design of the system's mechanical components.
  • Validation and Testing: Lead the site acceptance testing (SAT) phases at the client's location to ensure compliance and performance.
  • Versatility and Adaptation: Take on various related tasks to support project progress, adapting strategies and techniques as needed to meet team objectives.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or any other relevant degree.
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in automation or a related field.
  • Experience in the material handling and management industry within automated warehouse environments.


Technical Skills
  • Proficiency or strong knowledge of programming languages such as GRAFCET, Ladder Logic, and Structured Text (ST)
  • Good knowledge of electrical systems, including control and power, as well as mechanical systems.
  • Experience in system integration and automation workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of machine safety standards (an asset).
