We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controls Engineer to join our dynamic Operational Technology team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in control systems design, automation, and programming. This role will involve working closely with cross-functional teams to develop, implement, and optimize control strategies for the utility-scale solar sites we manage.

Key Responsibilities:

Controls System Design:

  • Collaborate with control room operators, field personnel, engineers and the OT team and electrical, and software engineers to design, develop and optimize control systems for solar sites
  • Design and modify control architectures, including selection and integration of sensors, actuators, PLCs, RTACs and other hardware components
  • Develop and implement control algorithms to achieve desired system performance, accuracy, and reliability

Programming and Implementation:

  • Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and other control devices to execute desired control strategies
  • Script and implement software for automated control, data acquisition, and real-time monitoring
  • Troubleshoot and debug control software to ensure smooth system operation.

Integration and Testing:

  • Integrate control systems with mechanical components, electrical systems, and software applications
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of control systems, including simulation and real-world testing involving control room operators and field personnel to ensure proper functionality and safety

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, structured text) and HMI/SCADA systems.
  • Strong understanding of control system theories, algorithms, and principles.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, Ethernet/IP).
  • Familiarity with hardware components such as sensors, actuators, relays, SEL, GE/Emerson, Red Lion devices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex control system issues and implement effective solutions.
