What is Autodesk software development?

Autodesk software development involves creating, maintaining, and improving software products developed by Autodesk, such as AutoCAD, Revit, Maya, and Fusion 360. Developers working in this field use programming languages and tools to build applications that help professionals in architecture, engineering, construction, manufacturing, and media industries. Their work includes designing new features, fixing bugs, and ensuring the software meets the evolving needs of users. Autodesk developers may also contribute to APIs, plugins, and cloud-based services that integrate with core Autodesk products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Autodesk software developer?

To thrive as an Autodesk Software Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as C++, Python, or .NET), a solid understanding of computer science principles, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with Autodesk APIs, software development kits (SDKs), and tools like AutoCAD, Revit, or Maya is often required, along with experience using version control systems like Git. Excellent problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication set standout developers apart. These skills are critical for building robust, innovative design solutions and ensuring smooth collaboration in complex development environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Autodesk software developers when working on large-scale design projects?

Autodesk software developers often work on complex, large-scale design and engineering projects that require balancing performance, scalability, and usability. One common challenge is integrating new features without disrupting existing workflows for users in industries like architecture, engineering, and construction. Developers must also ensure compatibility across multiple platforms and work closely with product managers, UX designers, and QA engineers to deliver high-quality releases. Regular collaboration and agile methodologies are essential for overcoming these challenges and ensuring successful project delivery.

Position Overview (Enhanced)
Autodesk is looking for a Software Architect to join our COO Architecture team, leading the architecture of next-generation Go-to-Market (GTM) systems. In this role, you will report to the Distinguished Architect for Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success, and collaborate with a global team of architects driving Autodesk's digital transformation.
You will play a key role in reimagining our GTM ecosystem by modernizing platforms and embedding AI-first and agent-driven architectures across Sales and Customer Success. This includes leveraging Agentic AI frameworks (e.g., Salesforce Agentforce) and integrating cutting-edge AI technologies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and developer tooling like Cursor to automate workflows, enhance decision-making, and enable intelligent, autonomous business processes.
This is a high-impact opportunity to shape Autodesk's revenue engine by designing scalable, secure, and intelligent systems that accelerate growth and operational efficiency.

  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture and define the strategic roadmap for Sales and Customer Success platforms, with a strong focus on AI-driven automation and intelligent systems
  • Architect agent-based and autonomous workflows using platforms like Salesforce Agentforce, enabling proactive customer engagement, pipeline acceleration, and operational efficiency
  • Design and implement AI-powered GTM solutions, leveraging LLM ecosystems (OpenAI, Anthropic) for use cases such as:
  • Intelligent lead scoring and routing
  • Sales copilots and customer success assistants
  • Automated insights generation and forecasting
  • Conversational interfaces and workflow automation
  • Define scalable, event-driven and composable architectures, integrating CRM, CDP, ERP, and Customer Success platforms with modern data platforms
  • Stay at the forefront of innovation across:
  • Generative AI, Agentic AI, and ML
  • Salesforce ecosystem (Sales Cloud, Data Cloud, Einstein, Agentforce)
  • Modern AI developer tooling (e.g., Cursor, prompt engineering frameworks)
  • Drive adoption of AI-enabled architectures, ensuring responsible AI practices, governance, compliance, and data security
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with GTM, Product, Engineering, and Data teams to design AI-infused customer journeys and business processes
  • Define build vs buy strategies, including evaluation of AI platforms, open-source frameworks, and SaaS tools
  • Architect and guide implementation of modern cloud-native, API-first, and data-centric platforms, enabling real-time intelligence and personalization
  • Develop conceptual and logical data models in partnership with Data Architects, ensuring readiness for AI/ML workloads
  • Translate complex technical and AI-driven concepts into clear strategies for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ensure non-functional requirements including scalability, reliability, security, compliance, and AI governance are met

Minimum Qualifications (Enhanced)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field
  • 12+ years of experience delivering enterprise software solutions, with strong focus on Sales, Customer Success, and CRM domains
  • Proven experience designing and delivering AI/ML or Generative AI solutions, including hands-on exposure to LLM platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar
  • Experience building or integrating agentic or autonomous systems, including exposure to Agentforce or similar agent frameworks
  • Salesforce certifications and deep expertise across Sales Cloud, Data Cloud, and Customer Success ecosystems
  • Strong experience with data integrations and distributed systems (APIs, event-driven architectures, data pipelines, security layers)
  • Domain knowledge across marketing, CRM, ERP, customer success platforms, and analytics ecosystems
  • 8+ years of experience working with customer success and sales systems, including business process mapping and customer journey design
  • Experience architecting solutions for large-scale enterprises with a focus on scalability and resilience
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor) and modern engineering practices
  • Strong understanding of compliance and data governance (GDPR, SOX, etc.), including implications for AI systems
