Job description

Clearance Requirement: Active Secret Clearance is required to start

Travel Requirements: Minimal travel

Location: Norfolk, VA

Mission

Out at sea, there’s no margin for failure. Naval systems must operate reliably in extreme conditions, constant vibration, high heat, saltwater corrosion, and continuous operational demand. The hardware that supports these missions must be engineered not just to function, but to endure.

At WR, we design and deliver the mechanical and electrical systems that protect, support, and enable critical naval technologies. From concept through deployment, our work ensures that mission-critical equipment performs exactly as expected, when it matters most.

Summary

WR has an opportunity for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to design and develop ruggedized mechanical and electromechanical systems supporting critical naval operations.

What You’ll Do

·         Document and design mechanical and electromechanical components and systems

·         Develop drawing packages (Level-3 Drawings, block diagrams, Bills of Materials [BOM], manufacturing, assembly, modeling, renderings and installation) using Autodesk Inventor 3D

·         Independently analyze specifications and performance requirements to ensure designs can be produced by existing manufacturing methods

·         Determine feasibility of designing new components or modifying existing components considering costs, available space, time limitations, planning, and other technical and economic factors

·         Independently researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application

·         Uses extensive experience in creating technical drawings and documentation packages

What Makes This Role Different

  • You’re not just designing parts, you’re ensuring systems survive real-world conditions at sea
  • You’ll work across the full lifecycle: concept → design → analysis → testing → deployment
  • Your designs will directly support mission readiness and operational reliability
  • You’ll bridge the gap between engineering design and real-world performance

Must have qualifications

·         Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering

·         Six (6)+ years of full-time professional experience in Mechanical Systems to include: Systems/Equipment design and Test and Evaluation support

·         Three (3)+ years of technical experience in design and development of DoD systems

·         Experience working with CAD software (AutoCAD and Inventor preferred) with extensive knowledge of 3D modeling and creating Bills of Material (BOM)

The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment third-party background check which may include verification of any of the following: Employment history; Education and/or certifications; Criminal history; Driving Records; Other records or information related to the candidate’s suitability for the position.

Benefits Offered: WR offers a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees including Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), Paid Time Off, Company Paid Holidays, Life Insurance, Short- and Long-Term Disability, Flexible Spending Account, Employee Assistance Program, and Tuition Reimbursement.
