Autodesk Inventor Remote information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Autodesk Inventor Remote Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Autodesk Inventor Remote Designer, you need strong 3D modeling skills, mechanical design knowledge, and experience with CAD software, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree or certification. Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, familiarity with PLM/PDM systems, and understanding of industry standards are essential technical qualifications. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you collaborate effectively and manage projects independently. These skills ensure accurate designs, efficient workflows, and successful remote teamwork in delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

What are some common challenges faced by Autodesk Inventor professionals working remotely, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Autodesk Inventor professionals often face challenges related to large file management, collaboration on complex models, and ensuring software compatibility across team members. To address these, many teams use cloud-based platforms for file sharing and version control, establish clear communication protocols for design reviews, and ensure all team members are aligned on software versions and plugins. Regular virtual meetings and screen-sharing sessions also help maintain collaboration and resolve technical issues quickly. Adapting to these remote workflows not only streamlines productivity but also builds strong, connected teams.

What is an Autodesk Inventor remote job?

An Autodesk Inventor remote job involves working from a location outside of a traditional office to design, model, and create 3D digital prototypes using Autodesk Inventor software. Professionals in these roles use Inventor to develop mechanical designs, assemblies, and detailed drawings for manufacturing or engineering projects. Remote roles may require regular virtual meetings, collaboration with engineering teams, and strong communication skills to ensure project objectives are met. Typically, these positions are suited for experienced CAD designers, engineers, or drafters who can work independently and deliver high-quality results from home or another remote location.

Job description

Your role
As a Mechanical Designer at Atlas Copco, you will play a pivotal role in engineering support that bridges manufacturing and marketing efforts. Your core responsibility is the mechanical design and innovation of components and new products tailored to meet evolving customer and market requirements. You will be reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, working within a dynamic, collaborative team environment.
Your key duties will include:
  • Designing specialized equipment and systems tailored to unique customer specifications, providing all necessary calculations and collaborating with external vendors or third-party experts to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Producing detailed layouts, specifications, and design documentation for new product initiatives, as well as modifications of existing designs, ensuring alignment with strategic goals approved by senior management.
  • Developing comprehensive Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) based on client specifications and integrating these into product layouts and Bills of Materials (BOM) for manufacturing and quality assurance.
  • Utilizing advanced Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools including AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor to create and iterate on mechanical components and assemblies, ensuring precision and manufacturability.
  • Managing the full lifecycle of engineering change processes including creation, review, and implementation of Design Notifications and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to maintain product integrity and compliance.
  • Maintaining and organizing comprehensive engineering documentation to ensure transparency, traceability, and accessibility for cross-functional teams and audits.
  • Ensuring all designed products comply with applicable local, national, and industry safety codes and standards, while meeting the company's quality, economic, performance, and safety benchmarks.
  • Engaging actively in prototyping phases, testing protocols, and production line setup to validate designs and facilitate smooth transitions to manufacturing.
  • Preparing and communicating clear Bills of Materials (BOM) and detailed specifications to support purchasing and supply chain teams, securing appropriate raw materials and components.
  • Delivering ongoing technical support to assembly, production, and quality control teams, helping troubleshoot issues and improving manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborating closely with shop floor personnel to verify that final products meet design criteria and customer expectations.
  • Supporting the sales, marketing, and service departments with technical expertise related to the products you design, contributing to customer satisfaction and brand reputation.
  • Adhering strictly to the SafeStart safety training process consistent with OSHA regulations to ensure workplace safety, prevent injuries, and uphold Atlas Copco's "Safety First" policy aimed at zero work-related accidents.
  • Championing sustainable engineering practices that contribute to the company's Quality, Environment, Safety, Health, and Energy/Resource Efficiency targets.
  • Occasionally traveling during daytime and overnight as necessary to support off-site activities and maintain close coordination with supervisory teams not located at your primary site.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to support continuous improvement and team objectives.
To succeed, you will need
Experience: A solid track record with 2 to 5 years in mechanical design roles, preferably involving rotating equipment such as reciprocating or screw compressors, pumps, or generators.
Knowledge: Proven expertise in intermediate-level mechanical design principles, with advantageous knowledge of pressure systems and vessel design standards.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience that demonstrates comparable skill and knowledge.
Skills: Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills essential for effective collaboration. Ability to operate independently with sound judgment under fast-paced conditions. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and preferably experience with SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software. A flexible, creative, and multitasking team player ready to contribute to a dynamic engineering environment.
In return, we offer
  • A supportive culture built on trust, accountability, and respect to empower you in your role.
  • Opportunities for lifelong learning with access to professional development programs designed to fuel your career growth and technical expertise.
  • An innovative workplace where people are the driving force behind cutting-edge solutions and industry advancements.
  • A competitive compensation package complemented by comprehensive benefits, including flexible plans tailored to meet individual needs.
  • Robust health and well-being resources to support your physical and mental health, encompassing medical, dental, vision insurance, and wellness initiatives.
  • A generous retirement plan with company matching to help secure your financial future.
  • Paid time off, including vacation, holidays, and floating days to promote a healthy work-life balance.
  • Tuition reimbursement options for continuing education, certifications, and career advancement.
