Location: Houston, TX 77087
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM
Lunch: 30-minute lunch break
Pay Rate: $22.00–$40.00 per hour, based on experience and ability
Experience: 2+ years of drafting experience preferred

Position Overview


We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mechanical Draftsman / Designer to join our team in Houston, TX. This position is ideal for a motivated professional with strong mechanical drafting skills and hands-on experience creating detailed drawings and 3D models.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate mechanical drawings, solid models, assemblies, and production drawings used by machinists and manufacturing personnel. Experience with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor (3D) is required, along with the ability to interpret layouts and translate design concepts into detailed, functional drawings.

Experience working with mechanical seals and seal components is highly preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, understand mechanical design principles, and be comfortable working independently without constant supervision.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain accurate mechanical drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
  • Create detailed 2D mechanical drawings for machinists and manufacturing personnel to use during production.
  • Develop 3D solid models and detailed components using Inventor.
  • Design and develop mechanical seals and seal-related components.
  • Create drawings and models from provided specifications, measurements, layouts, and design requirements.
  • Design and detail mechanical assemblies based on provided layouts.
  • Develop individual components and complete assemblies while ensuring proper fit, form, and function.
  • Prepare drawings with appropriate dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, notes, and other manufacturing details.
  • Review drawings and designs for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability.
  • Make revisions and updates to existing drawings and models as needed.
  • Work closely with machinists and other personnel to ensure drawings clearly communicate manufacturing requirements.
  • Interpret existing drawings and layouts and convert them into detailed production-ready designs.
  • Maintain organized drawing files and documentation.
  • Assist with resolving design or drafting issues that arise during the manufacturing process.
  • Ensure drawings and models are completed accurately and within required timelines.
  • Follow established drafting, engineering, quality, and documentation standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized digital workspace and properly manage project files.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of mechanical drafting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor / Inventor 3D.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings and drafting principles.
  • Experience creating detailed 2D manufacturing drawings.
  • Experience developing 3D solid models.
  • Ability to create and modify mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, layouts, and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of dimensions, tolerances, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Mechanical seal and seal-component drafting experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Compensation

Starting pay range: $22.00–$40.00 per hour

Pay will be determined based on the candidate's drafting experience, technical abilities, software proficiency, mechanical knowledge, and overall qualifications. Candidates with strong AutoCAD and Inventor skills, mechanical seal experience, and the ability to independently produce detailed manufacturing drawings may qualify toward the higher end of the range.
