What is AutoCAD design?

AutoCAD design refers to the process of creating detailed 2D and 3D drawings and models using AutoCAD, a computer-aided design (CAD) software developed by Autodesk. AutoCAD designers use this software to draft architectural plans, engineering schematics, product designs, and more. The software allows for precise measurements, easy editing, and the ability to visualize complex structures or components before they are built, making it a valuable tool in many industries such as architecture, engineering, and manufacturing.

What are some common challenges faced by AutoCAD designers when working on collaborative projects?

AutoCAD Designers often face challenges when collaborating on large projects, such as managing multiple revisions, ensuring consistency across drawings, and coordinating with other team members like architects, engineers, or project managers. Maintaining clear communication and version control is essential to avoid duplicated efforts or design conflicts. Utilizing shared cloud platforms and adhering to standardized file-naming conventions can help streamline the workflow and reduce errors in a collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AutoCAD designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AutoCAD Designer, you need strong technical drafting abilities, attention to detail, and proficiency in engineering or architectural concepts, typically supported by a relevant degree or certification. Mastery of AutoCAD software, familiarity with CAD standards, and experience with related design tools like Revit or SolidWorks are essential. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you collaborate effectively and deliver accurate designs on schedule. These competencies ensure high-quality, precise designs that meet project requirements and client expectations.

2D AutoCAD Mechanical Designer – Production Specialist

Up to $75,000 Base • Richfield, WI Area • Direct-Hire

  • COMPENSATION: $60,000 – $75,000 Starting Base Salary (commensurate with drafting depth) + Comprehensive Benefits Package
  • WORK STRUCTURE: Full-Time, Permanent W-2 Position | 100% Onsite (Zero Travel) in a clean, modern facility
  • EXPERIENCE: 3+ years of professional 2D AutoCAD mechanical design experience in manufacturing, machinery, or structural fabrication environments
  • TECHNICAL FOCUS: Complete mastery of 2D AutoCAD design excellence for manufacturing-ready schematics, submittals, and BOM development
  • COMPANY PROFILE: Industry-leading green-tech manufacturer with a 40-year history of stability and zero layoffs
  • REQUIREMENTS: US Citizen or Green Card holder residing within a dependable 45-minute daily drive of the Richfield, WI area

If you are a detail-oriented draftsman looking to step away from volatile contract work or high-stress corporate engineering firms, this direct-hire design seat offers long-term stability in a booming sector. The employer is a financially sound, industry-leading manufacturer with a 40-year history of zero layoffs. They engineer custom, sustainable systems that significantly cut fossil fuel usage and pollution, driving record-breaking market demand.

Bridging the gap between engineering theory and shop floor execution, you will take full ownership of custom submittal packages and detailed Bills of Materials. Located right next to the shop floor, you’ll enjoy the unique satisfaction of collaborating directly with fabricators and watching your custom designs physically come to life.

What You Will Be Doing (Daily Responsibilities)
  • Design 2D Submittal Drawings: Create detailed 2D mechanical submittal drawings for complex industrial fluid-handling and heat-transfer systems using AutoCAD.
  • Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs): Build complete BOMs and sales order job packets to guide shop floor assembly from design approval through final production.
  • Shop Floor Collaboration: Walk the manufacturing grid to view assigned projects in active build, collaborating directly with fabricators and updating post-shipment "as-built" drawings.
  • Provide Client Consultation: Act as a technical contact during the submittal process, answering client engineering inquiries to secure fast "approved for production" sign-offs.
  • Maintain Drafting Standards: Utilize custom internal AutoCAD commands and standards to maintain consistent design quality and support peers on technical drafting questions.
What We Are Looking For (Requirements & Qualifications)
  • 3+ years of professional 2D AutoCAD mechanical design experience in an industrial manufacturing, machinery, or structural fabrication shop.
  • Mechanical & Shop Floor Aptitude: Clear understanding of how 2D assembly prints translate into raw fabrication and physical assembly.
  • Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting Technology, Industrial Design, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Professional written and verbal skills to communicate effectively with plant supervisors, project leads, and external clients.
  • Career Stability: A steady work history demonstrating long-term tenure and commitment (averaging 3+ years per employer).
  • Local Proximity: Residing within a comfortable 45-minute daily commuting radius of Richfield, WI.
