Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Metrology Technician performs precision dimensional inspections using CMMs, articulated arms, laser trackers, and related metrology equipment. This role supports manufacturing and engineering by verifying product conformance, conducting inspections, and generating accurate measurement data in compliance with engineering and quality requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Perform dimensional inspections using CMMs, articulated arms, laser trackers, and other metrology equipment.

· Program and operate metrology software, including Verisurf; PolyWorks experience is preferred.

· Inspect parts, assemblies, tooling, and fixtures to engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements.

· Generate and maintain inspection reports and measurement records.

· Support First Article Inspections (FAI), in-process, and final inspections.

· Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to resolve dimensional issues.

· Maintain metrology equipment and ensure calibration requirements are met.

· Assist with root cause investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.

· Follow applicable quality procedures and aerospace standards.

· Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant work environment.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Proficient with:

o Verisurf (required)

o PolyWorks (preferred)

o GD&T interpretation per ASME Y14.5

o CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, Creo, or similar)

o Reading engineering drawings and 3D models

o Inspection report generation and data analysis

· Ability to align parts using CAD models and establish coordinate systems.

· Knowledge of best-fit, datum-based, and iterative alignment strategies.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education:

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Associate degree or technical certification in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metrology, or a related field preferred.

· Formal training in CMM programming and operation is highly desirable.

Experience:

· 3–5+ years of experience performing dimensional inspection in an aerospace or precision manufacturing environment.

· Experience operating:

o Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs)

o Articulated Arms (e.g., Faro, Romer)

o Laser Trackers (e.g., Faro, Leica)

· Experience inspecting complex composite and machined components.

· Experience supporting First Article Inspection (FAI) and production inspection.

Certifications (Preferred)

· CMM programming certification (Verisurf, Hexagon, or equivalent)

· Faro Arm or Laser Tracker training/certification

· PolyWorks training/certification

· GD&T certification

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires an on-site presence. Working conditions are normal for an office environment but may be noisy at times. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

The position must meet Arms Export Control Act (AECA) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen (whether born or naturalized), lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. Employment with the company is contingent on either verifying U.S.-person status or obtaining any necessary license that the applicant will be required to answer certain questions for export control purposes. The information will be reviewed by compliance personnel to ensure compliance with federal law. The employer may choose not to apply for a license for such individuals whose access to export-controlled technology or software source code may require authorization and may decline to proceed with an applicant on that basis alone.
