Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

We pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality, large- and small-scale composite structures for our aerospace, defense, and commercial customers. AAR has over 50 years of experience from our roots in auto racing through years of supporting aerospace and defense. The key to our success is largely dependent on our dedicated family of hard-working team members with a can-do attitude. We’re currently searching for an experienced Industrial Manufacturing Engineer to join our ranks and continue our tradition of success.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: include the following and all other duties assigned.

· Candidate will support the new product development (NPD) team with a focus on promoting cost effective design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA).

· Candidate will support the transition of new products from NPD into value stream (VS) production. This includes ensuring accurate preparation of process router sheets and standard labor hours, detailed work instructions, and Bill of Materials as well as creating work cells, setting up the line, ensuring adequate line capacity, development of operator training by the NPD team and VS production leads, creating standard work and detailed work instructions, etc.

· Provides full line support to assist VS production in resolving assembly, contractual, and/or technical matters.

· Collaborate with quality on Rejected Material disposition and resolution to related manufacturing process problems.

· Evaluate and process Engineering Change Orders (ECO) through completion. Coordinate implementation of ECOs on affected hardware.

· Provide cost estimating support for new RFQ programs.

· Generate plant wide cost reduction and VS productivity improvements projects. Manufacturing project management participation in planning, execution and tracking of on-going production, new product release, and rework projects as assigned by the Value Stream Manager. Facilitate and manage multiple projects and initiatives at one time.

· Education and/or Experience (Must be relevant to the job, not the person. Must be the minimum qualifications relevant to the job and all applicants must meet minimum qualifications):

Four (4) year degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or related technical degree from accredited school and 3-5 years of relevant experience in job shop and lower volume production environments. Must have hands on knowledge of methods, processes, tools and equipment in a manufacturing facility. Candidate must be mechanically inclined and hands on. Lean implementation experience desired.

· Skills: Competent knowledge of Windows, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, MSN Project, ERP and Outlook. Ability to communicate orally and in writing utilizing basic project management skills is required. Understanding of basic lean manufacturing concepts is strongly desired (value stream mapping, 5-S, Kanban, elimination of waste, standard work, visual management, lean cell design, setup reduction, mistake proofing, etc).

· Reasoning Ability: Must be able to work under pressure and deal with multiple priorities and still meet deadlines. Ability to solve practical problems and apply critical thinking to address issues only limited information is available. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram format. Candidate must be mechanically inclined with a true understanding of equipment.

Individuals should be physically able to carry out job assignments in a production environment. Physical activity will require walking, climbing stairs and lifting 25 pounds without assistance. Should have good overall vision, depth perception and have the ability to differentiate colors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds on a repetitive basis.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for up to twelve (12) hours.
  • Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, pushing and pulling of materials.
  • Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level.
  • Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
  • Must be able to wear all the required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Visual acuity skill to detect any flaws in the parts being inspected.

The position must meet Arms Export Control Act (AECA) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. Employment with the company is contingent on either verifying U.S.-person status or obtaining any necessary license that the applicant will be required to answer certain questions for export control purposes. The information will be reviewed by compliance personnel to ensure compliance with federal law. The employer may choose not to apply for a license for such individuals whose access to export-controlled technology or software source code may require authorization and may decline to proceed with an applicant on that basis alone.
