What is an auto advisor?

Auto Advisors are professionals who provide expert advice and guidance to individuals looking to purchase, sell, or lease vehicles. They help clients navigate the car-buying process, offering recommendations on makes and models, negotiating prices, and ensuring clients get the best possible deals. Auto Advisors may work independently, for dealerships, or as part of auto consulting firms. Their goal is to simplify the often complex automotive market and advocate for the best interests of their clients.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an auto advisor?

To thrive as an Auto Advisor, you need a solid understanding of automotive systems, strong customer service skills, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent, with some employers preferring ASE certification. Familiarity with dealership management systems (DMS), repair order software, and parts inventory tools is often required. Excellent communication, active listening, and problem-solving abilities help build trust and effectively address customer concerns. These skills and qualifications are crucial for accurately diagnosing client needs, ensuring efficient service workflows, and fostering long-term customer loyalty.

How does an auto advisor typically collaborate with service technicians and customers during the vehicle repair process?

An Auto Advisor acts as a crucial liaison between customers and service technicians. They communicate customer concerns to technicians, interpret technical information for the customer, and provide updates on repair progress. Effective Auto Advisors ensure that both parties understand the work required, expected timelines, and costs involved. This role often requires strong communication and organizational skills to manage multiple repair orders and maintain customer satisfaction throughout the process.

How do auto advisors get paid?

Auto advisors typically earn commissions or fees based on the services they provide, such as selling vehicles, securing financing, or recommending maintenance. They may also receive a salary or hourly wage, especially if employed by a dealership or service center, and often need strong communication skills and industry knowledge to succeed.

What does an auto advisor do?

An auto advisor assists customers with vehicle purchases, repairs, and maintenance by providing information on options, pricing, and services. They often evaluate customer needs, explain technical details, and recommend suitable solutions, typically working in dealerships or service centers and requiring good communication skills. Job description

Auto Advisors is a car-buying service offered to members of participating credit unions. The Advisor's role is to qualify buyers, who are referred by the credit union, and then set an appointment to meet at a dealer where they will get below-market pricing on the new or used vehicle of their choice, fair trade-in values, and preferential credit union financing. All in a hassle and haggle-free environment.

Although Advisors are full time employees of our company, they share office space in our credit union partner's branch offices, and then drive to meet the members at the dealers to purchase the new or used vehicle. We are not a car dealer. We simply facilitate the process.

The Auto Advisor position requires someone who...

  • Can build and maintain relationships
  • Has a good work ethic and can work independently
  • Is self-motivated and a good communicator

The ideal candidate has a minimum of one year in automotive retail, automotive Internet/BDC sales, or related experience!

Candidates should possess:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Open and honest personality
  • Ability to adapt and to learn quickly
  • A valid driver's license and a good reliable car

Love the car business, but hate the hours and the grind? This is the perfect job for the self-motivated individual and is extremely satisfying as we help consumers navigate the daunting car selling process they encounter at dealerships.

Compensation ranges from $38,000 -75,000/yr, but the ceiling is up to you. Auto Advisors offers a competitive compensation package including a company matched retirement plan and health insurance.

Company Description

The Auto Advisor Program has one mission in mind: helping consumers get a fair and competitive transaction price on a new or used vehicle, while financing directly with their credit union! Since the purchase of a vehicle is one of the largest purchases we make, it's important to make a smart financial decision. We show our credit union members how to do that. Purchasing a new or used vehicle is one of the most significant purchases you may make. For such an important transaction, you should make sure that you are buying the right vehicle at the absolute best price."
