Essential Functions

  • Registers or Pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that requires authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral.
  • Coordinates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged. Requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible party.
  • Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis.
Physical Requirements
This position frequently requires walking from different areas. Must be able to push a wheelchair with patient in it and maneuver through doors, up/down ramps and elevators. Must be able to respond quickly to medical STATS and emergencies. This position requires sitting frequently. Must be able to lift 20-50 pounds occasionally. Works in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions.


Education, Experience and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred. Accurate spelling and attention to detail required. Must be able to key 40 wpm. Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing preferred. Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third party reimbursement preferred. Excellent communication skills and customer services skills required.
