The University System of Georgia consolidatedย Georgia Health Sciences University, which was founded in 1828 as a medical school, and Augusta Stateย University, which was chartered in 1925 as the firstย junior college in the state, into Augusta Universityย in 2013. Augusta University is a public researchย university, an academic medical center, and the stateโ€™sย health sciences university, dedicated to deliveringย life-changing, life-saving education that prepares theย next generation of innovators, leaders, and healthcare providers. With four campuses in Augusta and satellite locations across Georgia, the university leadsย groundbreaking research that enriches and improvesย the human experience. Offering undergraduateย programs in the liberal arts and sciences, healthย sciences, computer and cyber sciences, business, andย education, along with a full range of graduate programsย and hands-on clinical research opportunities, theย university is home to nationally ranked business andย nursing schools, the stateโ€™s flagship public medicalย school, and its only dental school, giving its 11 collegesย and schools true statewide impact.

Health Sciences Campus

Augusta Universityโ€™s College of Allied Health Sciences is located on the universityโ€™s Health Sciences Campus in Augustaโ€™s medical district, home to the stateโ€™s only public academic medical center and one of approximately 120 academic medical centers nationwide. This vibrant, interdisciplinary environment supports collaboration across health professions education, research, and clinical care.

The Health Sciences Campus houses six of Augusta Universityโ€™s eleven colleges and schools, creating a dynamic academic health sciences community dedicated to advancing health care, discovery, and workforce development across Georgia and beyond.

The campus includes:

  • The Medical College of Georgia (MCG)ย โ€” one of the nationโ€™s largest and oldest medical schools and the only public medical school in Georgia. Anchored in Augusta with regional campuses throughout the state, MCG includes nearly 900 full- and part-time faculty who are deeply engaged in patient care, medical education, research, and community outreach.
  • The College of Nursing, the largest nursing program in Georgia, prepares nurse leaders through innovative education, impactful research, clinical practice, and community engagement aimed at improving the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities across the state.
  • The College of Allied Health Sciences, which educates therapists, technicians, administrators, managers, and other health professionals who form a critical component of the stateโ€™s health care workforce.
  • The College of Science and Mathematics, which provides foundational training in the sciences and prepares students for careers in health professions, research, and scientific discovery.
  • The Graduate School,ย which supports advanced scholarship and interdisciplinary graduate education, preparing leaders, researchers, educators, and clinicians who advance knowledge and improve communities.
  • The Dental College of Georgia, the stateโ€™s only dental school, which prepares future oral health professionals through hands-on clinical education, research, and community service.

Augusta Universityโ€™s Health Sciences Campus is further strengthened by its partnership with Wellstar Health System, which established Wellstar MCG Health. Located adjacent to campus, Wellstar MCG Health includes the former Augusta University Medical Center and the Childrenโ€™s Hospital of Georgia. These facilities serve as primary clinical training sites for students and residents while also supporting cutting-edge clinical research and providing comprehensive care to patients across the region.

The College of Allied Health Sciences

As one of Augusta Universityโ€™s eleven colleges, the College of Allied Health Sciences trains and educates todayโ€™s health care professionals: therapists, technicians, administrators, managers and assistants who are the backbone of our countryโ€™s health care workforce. We stay on the leading edge of national trends and advances in science, technology, and professionalism. In just the last decade, we have expanded our graduate programs nearly 250 percent, bolstered our clinical mission, and multiplied our research initiatives threefold. Our students engage in clinical opportunities across Georgia and the nation. We were an early proponent of interdisciplinary and distance education, and we continue to lead the way with our innovative programs.

The Dean

The Dean will be the chief executive of the College and will lead the College in the development and support of strong educational, research, and clinical programs, as well as faculty practice engagement, appropriate to the Collegeโ€™s mission. The Dean will also be responsible for implementing University and College policies, overseeing all support services for the College and addressing the needs of students, faculty and staff. The Dean will foster the establishment of strategic goals of the College, coordinating the departments to achieve the Collegeโ€™s mission in alignment with the initiatives to continue to advance research, patient care and academic programs.

In addition, the Dean will be a strong advocate for the College and will provide the vision and leadership to represent the College effectively in a complex health sciences and comprehensive university environment. The Dean will have budgetary authority and will be instrumental in recruiting outstanding faculty, students, and staff. The Dean reports directly to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring a record of distinguished academic leadership, research/scholarship, service, and teaching. The successful candidate must hold an earned doctoral degree or terminal degree in a related discipline. Must possess relevant academic administrative experience and demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure at the time of hire.

Appointment at the rank of Professor requires a senior-level faculty record, typically including ten or more years of experience in a related field, with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or with comparable training, background, and experience.
