Job description

Using advanced simulation systems that integrate Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR), Kratos helps warfighters build tactical skills, improve decision-making, and accelerate operational performance before they enter live operations. Kratos has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer. The Project Engineer coordinates and manages all technical aspects of a project, ensuring success in final integration, test, and delivery.

  • Defines and manages the overall technical scope of the project, interpreting client requirements, specifications, and applicable standards to develop comprehensive engineering execution plans and ensure alignment among various engineering disciplines
  • Supervises assigned electrical and mechanical engineers, design drafters, and systems engineers in all aspects of assigned scope and employee requirements
  • Oversee the development, review, and integration, and test of all engineering deliverables, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports from various disciplines, ensuring consistency, quality, and compliance with project requirements
  • Coordinates and reviews engineering analyses and calculations performed by discipline engineers to ensure technical accuracy and validate design assumptions
  • Manages the technical aspects of procurement, including developing technical specifications for equipment and materials, evaluating vendor proposals, and ensuring selected vendors and items meet project and engineering needs
  • Facilitates the resolution of technical issues and challenges that arise during design, procurement, construction, and commissioning, coordinating input from various engineering disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Develops and manages technical scopes of work, monitors engineering progress against project schedules and budgets, identifies variances, and implements corrective actions as needed.
  • Provides engineering oversight and support during procurement, fabrication, construction, installation, and commissioning phases, ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and safety
  • Conducts or coordinates site inspections and progress reviews to monitor technical compliance, identify potential issues, and ensure work aligns with engineering designs and project objectives
  • Identifies and manages technical risks throughout the project lifecycle, developing mitigation strategies in collaboration with the project team
  • Serves as a key technical interface between the project management team, discipline engineers, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of technical information
  • Manages technical changes to the project scope, evaluating impacts, and ensuring proper evaluation, documentation, and approval

  • BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering, or Construction Management, or a relevant technical field (significant work experience in mechanical engineering may be substituted for education).
  • At least 5 years of job-related experience, ideally in fields related to aerospace and military training systems or similar high-tech environments
  • Ability to interpret and work with electrical and mechanical drawings, interface control documents, requirements specifications, and system models
  • Proficiency with Model Based Design / Engineering and ANSI Y14.5 (GD&T)
  • Strong computer skills and experience with standard office software.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Experience with naval or industrial power plants
  • Experience as an EWS Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOW)
  • Project or Engineering Management Certification (PMI, CPEM)
  • Experience with any combination of: Building Information Models (BIM), AutoDesk Revit, Jira requirements management, Deltek CostPoint, SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM, TipQA
  • Knowledge and/or experience with relevant quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001)
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for data analysis or automation
  • Experience in test planning and execution for complex systems
