Job description

About Rivian
Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role Summary
Rivian is seeking an Audit Technician to support execution of the internal audit program and help ensure ongoing compliance with the Quality Management System. This role will perform assigned audits, collect and document objective evidence, identify gaps to requirements, and support timely follow-up of corrective actions. The Audit Technician will work closely with the Lead Audit Technician, process owners, and cross-functional teams to help strengthen process discipline and audit readiness across the organization.
This role is well-suited for a detail-oriented auditing professional with manufacturing or quality systems experience and a practical understanding of IATF 16949. The ideal candidate is organized, objective, and comfortable engaging with teams on the floor and in support functions to assess compliance and process effectiveness.
Responsibilities
  • Audit Execution
    • Conduct assigned process, product, layered, and system audits in accordance with the internal audit schedule and established audit methods.
    • Review procedures, work instructions, records, and other relevant documentation before and during audits.
    • Gather and document objective evidence through observation, interviews, and record review.
    • Identify and clearly document nonconformities, observations, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Participate in opening and closing meetings and communicate findings in a professional and factual manner.

  • Audit Reporting and Follow-Up
    • Prepare timely, accurate, and complete audit reports using approved templates and systems.
    • Track assigned findings and follow-up actions to support timely closure.
    • Verify implementation of corrective actions as assigned and escalate overdue or ineffective actions.
    • Maintain organized audit records and support audit metric reporting.
    • Support preparation and logistics for external, customer, and certification audits when needed.

  • QMS and Compliance Support
    • Support compliance to Rivian's Quality Manual, internal procedures, and other applicable requirements through routine audit activity.
    • Help identify process gaps, trends, and repeat issues that may indicate broader systemic concerns.
    • Provide practical feedback to process owners and escalate concerns through the Lead Audit Technician or QMS leadership as appropriate.
    • Support continuous improvement of audit checklists, templates, and standard work.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of experience in internal auditing, quality, manufacturing, inspection, compliance, or a related operational role.
  • Prior audit experience required; degree not required.
  • Basic understanding of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, or comparable quality management system requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret procedures, records, forms, and manufacturing or quality documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document findings accurately and objectively.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across functions.
  • Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and Jira

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience in automotive, EV manufacturing, or a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Internal auditor training or exposure to formal audit methods.
  • Experience with corrective action follow-up and verification.
  • Familiarity with quality tools such as 5 Why, process flow review, and basic risk-based thinking.
  • Experience working in production, quality assurance, or manufacturing support environments
