What is an audit associate hybrid?

An Audit Associate Hybrid is a professional who assists in conducting audits of financial statements and internal controls, often working in a flexible arrangement that includes both in-office and remote (work-from-home) settings. This role typically involves preparing audit documentation, testing financial data, and collaborating with clients and team members. The 'hybrid' aspect refers to the combination of on-site and remote work, allowing for greater flexibility while still meeting the demands of client service and regulatory compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an audit associate hybrid?

To thrive as an Audit Associate Hybrid, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, often with progress toward or completion of CPA certification. Familiarity with audit software like CaseWare or IDEA, Microsoft Excel, and knowledge of GAAP/GAAS standards is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and teamwork skills help you effectively interact with clients and manage hybrid work environments. These capabilities are vital to ensure accurate audits, regulatory compliance, and efficient collaboration across in-person and remote teams.

Job description

At Navy Federal, Internal Audit's goal is to provide independent, objective assurance and advisory services designed to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the risk management process. Internal Audit accomplishes its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to auditing to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk mitigation across all facets of the business.

Internal Audit includes a diverse range of professionals including certified auditors, subject matter experts who specialize in IT, finance, fraud, regulatory requirements, and data, as well as strategic personnel, all working collaboratively to ensure a seamless experience for Navy Federal and its members.

Navy Federal is growing and the environment in which we operate is rapidly evolving, posing new and unique risks to the enterprise. As a result, Internal Audit must continuously adapt to provide assurance to our business partners through a risk-based approach that evaluates the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and the internal control environment.

The Summer Associate will be a member of the Internal Audit Technology & Analytics Team composed of data analysts and other technology-focused personnel. The team employs quantitative tools and techniques to support strategic initiatives like the expansion of the Continuous Risk Assessment Program, in addition to performing data-driven, 100% population testing on audits.

The Summer Associate will work in a hybrid capacity and report to leadership at our Vienna, VA, Winchester VA or Pensacola, FL campus. Responsibilities could include applying data analysis, dashboarding and reporting skillsets to provide actionable insights to management and executive leadership.

The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2027 and ending in August 2027. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.

Navy Federal provides much more than a job. We provide a meaningful career experience, including a culture that is energized, engaged and committed; and fierce appreciation for our teams, who are rewarded with highly competitive pay and generous benefits and perks.
