Starting Rate: $29.7166 Hourly

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect mechanical installations, repairs, and alterations for compliance with City codes and ordinances.
- Review permit applications, plans, and specifications, and approve permits as appropriate.
- Investigate complaints, identify code violations, and inspect existing structures for unsafe conditions.
- Maintain inspection records, prepare reports, and issue notices of violations and corrective actions.
- Provide guidance to contractors, property owners, design professionals, and the public on mechanical code requirements.
- Enforce mechanical codes through stop- work orders, legal proceedings, and court testimony as required.
Required Qualifications:Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four years of high school, four years of responsible training in the mechanical trade and an additional five years of work experience in the mechanical field, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of or ability to acquire and maintain International Code Council (ICC) Mechanical Inspection Certification within timeframe specified by the City of Springfield and valid Class D driver's license is also required.
Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
To be eligible to apply, current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position.
