Job Description
SUPERVISOR: Jennifer Buelow
STATUS: Part Time at 10-15 hours a week
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Director of Family Discipleship, the Youth Ministry
Assistant is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of the Youth Ministry
and Programs. These programs are designed to evangelize the youth, bringing the
Gospel message into their life experiences and to provide, through program offerings,
providing opportunities that invite participation in the parish, with a connection to the
entire Roman Catholic Church. This participation is fostered through the celebration of
the Sunday Eucharist, the teachings of the Church, and the experience of loving each
individual person.
DUTIES OF THE JOB:
A. Assisting with organize, administer and coordinate all Youth Ministry activities
for Middle and High School students. These activities include the weekly
Wednesday night evangelistic meetings, special events, events with other
parishes, fundraising, creating promotional materials and summer trips for
teens.
B. Assisting with recruit, train and administer the Youth Ministry Core Team of
adults, to minister to middle and high school students and lead meetings. Work
towards the diocesan certification of all catechists.
C. Promote the program among the families of teens, the entire parish, and the
broader civic community.
D. Oversee the administration of the program, including helping to provide a Youth
Ministry budget submission, fundraising, and facility maintenance. This
including writing letters of recommendation for students, filling out service
experience forms.
E. Pursue education in current trends in youth ministry, Faith Formation, and other
related professional issues.
F. Maintain frequent (monthly) open communication with the Director of Family
Discipleship with regards to the short term and long-range planning needs of
the program.
G. Assist in purchasing materials for the Faith Formation Department. Assist with
Wednesday night Faith Formation classes, retreats, sacraments and other Faith
Formation and parish events. Perform any other position related tasks as
deemed necessary or assigned by the pastor or by other leaders.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities to Perform Essential Job
Functions
Must be a practicing Catholic; have a BS/BA, and/or have completed the Emmaus
Program or Missionary Leadership Institute. Equivalent in experience acceptable.
Abilities must include: Church teaching; lead public prayer; interpersonal skills; public speaking;
recruitment techniques; organizational, management, and administrative skills; creativity in
program design and development; facilitation skills; energy, enthusiasm, and commitment;
contemporary Catholic/Christian music; maintain A/V equipment; computer skills, including
word processing; teaching techniques for adolescents.
YOUTH MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Provide support, fundraising and information for events such as Love Begins Here,
Steubenville Youth Conference and other events in which the Diocese and parish
wishes to provide for the youth.
B. Maintain and recruit for Core Team (comprised of High School Students) and
Volunteers (comprised of Adults).
C. Provide meals for Youth Group on Wednesday nights as well as helping with some
special programing for Faith Formation(possibly teach on Wednesday nights as
well.)
D. Maintain and manage youth and facilities
E. Organize events and fundraising and be an advocate for teens in the Church.
OTHER DUTIES:
A. Prepare budgets for Youth Ministry and Youth Trips. Collecting and handing in
receipts for the Faith Formation Department. Tracking money in and out of all Faith
Formation Programs in a spreadsheet.
B. Helping with teaching Wednesday Nights if needed, helping with Faith Formation
events, receptions, retreats, and sacrament preparation for First Sacraments if
needed.
C. Finding and purchasing materials and supplies for the Faith Formation Department.
D. Have the ability to help with the set up and running a diverse range of computer
and technical equipment for the parish. Some knowledge of Windows, Mac, and
AV equipment are strongly encouraged.
E. Assisting with retreats and First Communion and First Reconciliation Days if
needed.
F. Assisting with other parish events such as Totus Tuus, special speakers, Parish
Missions, Parish Picnic, trainings, VBS and/or any other duties as assigned.
ADA: Physical/Visual/Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust
focus. This position requires intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking,
bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching as well as the ability to push, pull, move, and/or
lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and able to push, pull, move,
and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
Typical Working Conditions: Position will require some travel to off-site meeting locations
for community and parishioner youth events during evenings and weekends and will need the
flexibility to accommodate, evenings and weekends.
