Job description

Full-Time | Worship Ministry
Reports To
Worship Pastor
Classification
Full-Time Exempt
Department
Worship Ministry
Schedule
Includes Weekends
Position Summary
The Audio/Visual Director serves as both a technical expert and a ministry leader within Grace Fellowship's Worship Ministry. This role is responsible for the overall planning, execution, and excellence of all audio, visual, lighting, and broadcast systems that support weekend services, special events, and campus-wide productions.
Equally important to technical proficiency is the ability to recruit, develop, and shepherd a team of volunteers. The A/V Director will invest in people - equipping them to serve with excellence and building a team culture grounded in the grace and mission of Jesus Christ. This position reports directly to the Worship Pastor and collaborates closely with other ministry leaders to ensure every production element enhances worship and communicates the gospel clearly.
In keeping with Grace Fellowship's belief that all team members are ministers of the gospel (Section 1.3 of the Employee Handbook), this role carries both an administrative and a ministry dimension. The A/V Director is expected to engage with the spiritual life of the church, not merely its technical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Ministry Leadership & Volunteer Development
  • Recruit, train, and shepherd a volunteer team of audio, lighting, and video operators to serve across all weekend services and ministry events
  • Develop a culture of excellence, servanthood, and spiritual growth within the A/V volunteer team
  • Schedule and coordinate volunteers across multiple weekend services and special events, ensuring adequate and well-prepared coverage
  • Provide ongoing coaching, encouragement, and relational investment in each volunteer as a minister of the church
  • Create and maintain onboarding and training resources for new A/V volunteers
  • Identify and develop volunteer team leaders who can assist in managing and mentoring others

Production & Technical Excellence
  • Oversee and operate all audio systems, including front-of-house, monitors, in-ear mix, broadcast, and overflow audio for weekend worship services
  • Direct all video systems, including IMAG (image magnification), presentation software (ProPresenter), livestream broadcast, and recording
  • Manage all stage lighting design and operation for weekend services, special events, and productions
  • Collaborate with the Worship Pastor and worship team in advance of each service to ensure all production elements are planned and rehearsed
  • Ensure broadcast and online worship experiences are of consistently high quality, extending the ministry's reach beyond the physical campus
  • Maintain quality standards for all A/V content across services with an eye toward enhancing - never distracting from - the worship experience

Systems Management & Stewardship
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and organization of all A/V equipment across the church campus
  • Develop and manage an equipment inventory system and preventive maintenance schedule
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend strategic upgrades in alignment with ministry goals and budget constraints
  • Collaborate with facilities and other ministry departments on technical needs for special events, including campus-wide productions and school events
  • Manage the A/V department budget in coordination with the Executive Pastor and Worship Pastor

Ministry Participation
  • Actively participate in the life of Grace Fellowship as a committed member, attending services and engaging in the broader church community
  • Participate in staff meetings, ministry planning sessions, and other team gatherings as required
  • Support special events such as holiday services, baptisms, church-wide events, and Berean Christian School productions as needed
  • Maintain a personal walk with Jesus Christ consistent with the values and expectations of Grace Fellowship as outlined in the Employee Handbook and the Baptist Faith & Message (2000)

Qualifications
Required
  • Genuine, growing faith in Jesus Christ and alignment with the doctrinal standards of Grace Fellowship (Baptist Faith & Message, 2000)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and pastor volunteers in a ministry context
  • Hands-on experience in live audio production, video systems, and/or broadcast in a church or comparable production environment
  • Proficiency with professional audio consoles (digital preferred), video switching, ProPresenter, and stage lighting systems
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple services, events, and timelines simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to work collaboratively with pastoral staff, worship team, and volunteers
  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and irregular hours as required by the ministry calendar
  • Must successfully pass Grace Fellowship's standard background check process

Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Audio/Visual Production, Communications, Worship Technology, or a related field
  • Experience with livestreaming platforms (YouTube Live, Church Online Platform, or similar)
  • Working knowledge of video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve) and photography/design tools (Lightroom, Photoshop, Canva)
  • Familiarity with Planning Center for service planning and volunteer scheduling
  • Prior experience serving on a church staff in a production or worship technology role
  • Experience leading volunteer teams in a church or non-profit environment

What Success Looks Like
A thriving A/V Director at Grace Fellowship will be measured not just by the quality of the Sunday morning mix, but by the health and depth of the team they build. Within the first year, success looks like:
  • A fully staffed and well-trained volunteer team serving with confidence, joy, and spiritual purpose
  • Services running smoothly with minimal technical issues and maximum engagement from the congregation
  • A growing volunteer pipeline - new people identified, onboarded, and growing in skill and faith
  • Strong collaborative relationships with the Worship Pastor, worship team, and other ministry departments
  • A documented equipment maintenance plan and an organized, well-functioning gear inventory
  • Personal integration into the life of Grace Fellowship beyond the booth - engaged, growing, and investing in others
