Audio Mechanical Design Engineer information

What does an audio mechanical design engineer do?

An Audio Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing the physical components of audio devices, such as speakers, microphones, and headphones. They work to ensure that these products meet both acoustic performance and durability standards, collaborating closely with electrical and acoustical engineers. Their job often involves using CAD software for modeling, selecting appropriate materials, and conducting tests to optimize sound quality and mechanical reliability.

What are some typical interdisciplinary collaborations for an audio mechanical design engineer?

Audio Mechanical Design Engineers frequently work with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, acoustic engineers, and industrial designers to ensure the mechanical components support the overall performance and user experience of audio products. Collaboration is key during the prototyping and testing phases, where feedback from acoustics and electronics teams helps refine mechanical designs. Regular communication with manufacturing teams is also essential to address feasibility and quality concerns, making teamwork a major part of the daily workflow.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an audio mechanical design engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Audio Mechanical Design Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering principles, acoustics, and CAD modeling, often supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with simulation software (like COMSOL or ANSYS), 3D prototyping tools, and knowledge of industry standards such as ISO or AES are typically required. Attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and effective cross-functional communication are essential soft skills for this role. These competencies are crucial to designing reliable, high-performance audio products that meet both technical and user requirements.

What is the difference between Audio Mechanical Design Engineer vs Audio Electronics Engineer?

Mechanical Design Engineer
About the Opportunity
Are you a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys seeing your Designs come to life? Do you thrive in an environment where you can wear multiple hats, work on a variety of projects, and make a direct impact on the products being built?
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our close-knit engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on both new product development and redesign projects for custom machinery and equipment. If you enjoy solving complex design challenges, learning how machines work, and taking projects from concept through implementation, we'd love to speak with you.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Design and develop new machinery, equipment, and mechanical systems using SolidWorks.
  • Modify and redesign legacy equipment and components using AutoCAD to support new applications and customer requirements.
  • Work on a variety of projects ranging from quick-turn engineering changes to long-term product development initiatives.
  • Design components and assemblies involving rotary and continuous-motion equipment.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, assembly, and service teams to ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
  • Create detailed drawings, bills of materials, and engineering documentation.
  • Participate in machine testing, troubleshooting, and design validation.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and project objectives.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to existing products and equipment.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 1-2+ years of experience designing machinery, automation equipment, or industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for new product development.
  • Experience using AutoCAD for legacy drawings and design modifications.
  • Experience designing rotary motion and/or continuous motion equipment strongly preferred.
  • Packaging machinery experience is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine interest in understanding how machines operate.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with varying timelines and priorities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
What Makes This Opportunity Different?
  • Work in a family-oriented environment where your ideas and contributions matter.
  • Opportunity to work on a wide variety of engineering projects.
  • See your designs move from concept to finished machine.
  • Direct interaction with manufacturing and leadership teams.
  • Significant opportunity for professional growth and advancement.
  • No rigid career ceiling—your growth is limited only by your ambition and performance.
If you enjoy designing machines, solving real-world engineering challenges, and working in an environment where you can make an immediate impact, we encourage you to apply.
