How much do audio electrical engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 21, 2026, the average yearly pay for audio electrical engineer in the United States is $111,091.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $83,000.00 and $132,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as software, petroleum, or aerospace engineering can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Achieving this level typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and working in high-demand industries or leadership roles.

What types of projects or products do Audio Electrical Engineers typically work on?

Audio Electrical Engineers often work on designing, prototyping, and refining audio equipment such as amplifiers, mixers, microphones, headphones, loudspeakers, and integrated audio systems for consumer electronics, automotive, or professional sound applications. Depending on the company, you might be tasked with both the hardware and firmware aspects to ensure optimal sound quality, durability, and compliance with industry regulations. The role frequently requires close collaboration with software engineers, industrial designers, and product managers to bring a concept from initial design to mass production. This variety exposes you to both creative and technical challenges, making for an engaging and rewarding career path.

Can an electrical engineer work as an audio engineer?

An electrical engineer can work as an audio engineer since both roles involve understanding electronics and signal processing. Transitioning may require additional training in audio-specific skills, equipment, and acoustics, but the foundational knowledge in electronics is highly relevant.

Can you make $500,000 as an electrical engineer?

Audio electrical engineers typically earn salaries below $200,000 annually, with high-level or specialized roles potentially reaching higher compensation. Achieving a $500,000 salary usually requires extensive experience, advanced skills, management responsibilities, or working in high-paying industries or locations. Such earnings are uncommon for standard roles in the field.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior electrical engineers, especially those with specialized skills in areas like power systems, control systems, or working in high-demand industries, can earn $300,000 or more annually. Certain roles in management, consulting, or working for large corporations may also reach this level, often requiring advanced certifications and extensive experience.

What does an Audio Electrical Engineer do?

An Audio Electrical Engineer designs, develops, and tests electronic systems used in audio equipment, such as microphones, amplifiers, speakers, and recording devices. They work with circuitry, signal processing, and digital or analog components to enhance sound quality and performance. Their role often involves troubleshooting, prototyping, and optimizing hardware for music, broadcasting, or consumer electronics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Audio Electrical Engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Audio Electrical Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, audio signal processing, and circuit design, typically with a relevant bachelor's degree. Familiarity with tools like MATLAB, SPICE simulation software, PCB layout programs, and industry standards such as AES or IEC is highly valued, as is certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) in some roles. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate well with multidisciplinary teams and clients. These skills ensure you can develop, test, and troubleshoot high-quality audio hardware that meets rigorous industry demands.
