What is the difference between Audio Editing vs Audio Engineering?

AspectAudio EditingAudio Engineering
Required CredentialsBasic audio editing software skills, sometimes certifications in editing toolsAdvanced knowledge of audio equipment, certifications in sound engineering or production
Work EnvironmentPost-production studios, editing suites, remote editing setupsRecording studios, live venues, broadcast environments
Employer & Industry UsageMedia companies, film and TV production, podcastingMusic production, film sound, live sound reinforcement

Audio editing primarily involves manipulating and refining audio recordings using editing software, focusing on cutting, arranging, and enhancing sound clips. Audio engineering encompasses a broader scope, including recording, mixing, and managing sound during production. While both roles require technical skills, audio engineering often demands more advanced certifications and hands-on experience with audio equipment. Understanding these differences helps clarify career paths and job expectations in the audio industry.

What are some common challenges audio editors face when collaborating with producers and other team members?

Audio editors often work closely with producers, sound designers, and other creatives, which can lead to challenges around aligning artistic vision and meeting tight deadlines. Communication is key in resolving feedback loops, managing revisions, and ensuring the final product matches the intended style. Adapting to different workflows, file formats, and software preferences among collaborators is also common. Building strong organizational habits and maintaining clear, frequent communication can help audio editors navigate these challenges successfully.

What are audio editing jobs?

Audio editing is used in TV, music, and film production to create and edit the perfect soundtrack. A sound editor or engineer builds the soundtrack by cutting the picture to synchronize it with sound elements. Their duties involve working with dialogue tracks, recordings, and analog and digital foley. Re-recording mixer responsibilities focus on the final sound balance, paying attention to volume levels as well as sound quality. Audio editing supervisors handle the sound post-production. They collaborate with the director to ensure the production soundtrack meets the requirements, stays within the budget, and everything proceeds as scheduled.

What is audio editing?

Audio editing is the process of manipulating and arranging sound recordings using specialized software. This includes tasks such as cutting, trimming, mixing, cleaning up noise, adjusting levels, and adding effects to ensure high-quality audio output. Audio editors work with various audio formats and are essential in industries like music production, podcasts, film, and broadcasting. The goal is to create a polished and professional audio product that meets the intended purpose and audience expectations.

Job description

Description

At Element, you'll have the opportunity to shape brands that reach millions of households, work alongside passionate teammates and make a real impact in a growing, entrepreneurial organization. Founded in 2007, Element was built on a simple idea: technology should make life better-and be accessible to everyone. Today, we offer TVs, electronics and home appliances that focus on what matters to customers: great performance, thoughtful features and smart value. With the largest U.S.-based TV assembly plant and a growing portfolio across categories, Element continues to simplify technology, challenge convention and create products people feel confident choosing. Our teams are collaborative, committed and customer-first-driven by delivering value to our customers, partners and each other.

We're looking for a creative and versatile Content Producer, Video Editor & Motion Designer to help bring our portfolio of consumer brands to life across digital, retail, and e-commerce channels. This role will support brands within the home electronics, home appliances, outdoor entertaining and grilling categories, creating content that drives awareness, engagement and conversion across both B2B and D2C audiences.

The ideal candidate is a strong visual storyteller who enjoys working across the entire content creation process - from concept development and storyboarding to content capture, editing, motion graphics and final delivery. This role offers the opportunity to work on a range of products, helping consumers better understand, experience and connect with our brands.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Content Production

  • Produce engaging video, motion, and multimedia content that supports brand, product, marketing and sales objectives.
  • Develop content for paid advertising, social media, websites, email campaigns, retailer programs, trade shows, and e-commerce platforms.
  • Create compelling product-focused content that highlights features, benefits, use cases and customer experiences.
  • Translate technical product information into clear, engaging visual stories that resonate with consumers and retail partners.
  • Support new product launches with content that generates excitement and drives conversion.

Edit & Deliver Multi-Channel Content

  • Edit video content for social media, digital advertising, websites, retail displays, product pages and sales presentations.
  • Develop multiple content variations optimized for different platforms and audience segments.
  • Perform color correction, audio enhancement, motion graphics integration, and final asset delivery.
  • Ensure content is on-brand, visually compelling, and aligned with campaign goals.

Motion Graphics & Product Storytelling

  • Create motion graphics, animations, product explainers, feature callouts, and promotional assets.
  • Build reusable templates and motion assets that improve consistency and scalability across brands.

Production & Content Capture

  • Plan and execute internal and external content shoots for product demonstrations, lifestyle campaigns, how-to videos, customer testimonials, and promotional content.
  • Create storyboards, shot lists and production plans that align with business objectives.
  • Capture high-quality video, photography, and audio in studio, showroom, home, and outdoor environments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to coordinate content.

Leverage Emerging Technologies

  • Utilize AI-assisted tools to support content ideation, storyboarding, editing, transcription, asset generation, localization, and workflow efficiency.
  • Stay current on creative technologies, content trends, and platform best practices.
  • Help identify opportunities to streamline production processes while maintaining high creative standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Multimedia, Digital Media, or a related field required. Equivalent professional experience and a strong portfolio may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in content production, video editing, motion design, or a related creative role.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing video editing, motion graphics, and content creation work.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Lightroom, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Experience with video production workflows, content capture, and post-production.
  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling, motion graphics, and content optimization.
  • Experience creating multimedia content for consumer products and retail brands across digital marketing channels, including social media, websites, digital advertising, and e-commerce.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with home electronics, home appliances, consumer goods, outdoor products, grilling, or lifestyle brands.
  • Familiarity with camera systems, lighting equipment, audio capture, and studio production environments.
  • Familiarity with PDP content creation, retailer marketing assets, and marketplace content requirements.
  • Experience capturing product demonstrations, lifestyle photography, or how-to content.
  • Knowledge of AI-powered creative and editing tools.
  • Basic understanding of content performance metrics and digital marketing best practices.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
