Pay: $145,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year

Job Description

  • Advise city councils, mayors, municipal staff, boards, and commissions on a broad range of legal matters.
  • Research and analyze complex municipal law questions and develop practical recommendations.
  • Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, policies, procedures, and other municipal documents.
  • Provide timely legal guidance to municipal clients by phone and email.
  • Counsel clients on compliance with state, federal, and local laws.
  • Attend city council, board, and commission meetings and provide legal support as needed.
  • Represent municipal clients in litigation, administrative appeals, hearings, and other proceedings.
  • Review municipal documents and advise clients regarding Public Records Act requirements.
  • Negotiate, draft, and review contracts, deeds, leases, bid documents, bonds, easements, interlocal agreements, and related documents.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and staff to deliver responsive, practical legal solutions to municipal clients.
  • Develop additional expertise in areas such as land use and zoning, public records and open government, public bidding and contracting, municipal ethics, tribal law, water law, and personnel, employment, and labor matters.

Qualifications

  • Active Washington State bar license required.
  • 1+ year of municipal law experience required.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Litigation experience preferred.
  • Strong academic credentials preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining excellent attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented, self-motivated approach with strong ownership of responsibilities.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work effectively with attorneys, staff, and public-sector clients.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in land use/zoning, public records, government contracting, municipal ethics, tribal law, water law, or labor and employment law is highly valued.
