What is attack marketing?

Attack marketing is a bold, aggressive marketing strategy designed to quickly capture market share and attention, often by targeting competitors or making a strong, memorable impact on consumers. This approach may involve unconventional tactics, guerrilla marketing, or direct challenges to rival brands. The goal is to disrupt the status quo and prompt immediate engagement or reaction from the target audience. Companies use attack marketing to stand out in crowded markets, launch new products, or reposition their brand.

What are the typical challenges faced by professionals in attack marketing roles when executing unconventional campaigns?

Professionals in Attack Marketing often encounter challenges such as navigating strict brand guidelines while trying to push creative boundaries, securing permits or permissions for public stunts, and managing unpredictable responses from the public or authorities. Additionally, coordinating logistics under tight deadlines and ensuring campaigns remain both effective and ethical can be demanding. Successful Attack Marketing requires agility, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach with legal, creative, and client teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an attack marketing specialist, and why are they important?

To excel as an Attack Marketing Specialist, you need a background in marketing or communications, strong project management abilities, and experience in event or field marketing. Familiarity with CRM platforms, social media management tools, and data analytics software is often required. Excellent interpersonal skills, creativity, and adaptability help you engage audiences and represent brands effectively. These skills ensure impactful campaign execution, successful brand promotion, and measurable results in fast-paced, competitive environments.

What is the difference between Attack Marketing vs Content Marketing?

Job description

Synack's Penetration Testing as a Service platform manages customers' attack surfaces by discovering new assets, pentesting for critical vulnerabilities and gaining visibility into the root causes of security risks. We are committed to making the world more secure by harnessing a talented, vetted community of security researchers to deliver continuous penetration testing and vulnerability management, with actionable results. Synack's PTaaS platform has uncovered more than 71,000 exploitable vulnerabilities to date, protecting a growing list of Global 2000 customers and U.S. agencies in a FedRAMP Moderate Authorized environment. For more information, please visit www.synack.com.

We're looking for a creative, business-minded, and technically fluent product marketing leader to own the positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategy for the portfolio of Synack solutions. You'll dig deeply into our products, customers, and the cyber security market to build winning strategies and marketing programs that drive demand.

You'll become the expert on our buyers - what they value, the challenges they face, and how they buy - and you'll lead the organization in translating complex security capabilities into clear, compelling customer value. This is a senior, hands-on role that blends strategy with execution in a fast-paced, startup-mode team: we move quickly, work hard, and own our outcomes. It is a high-energy seat for people who thrive on pace and real accountability, not a relaxed one. Sounds interesting? Keep reading.

Here's what you'll do

  • Product positioning & messaging - Lead cross-functional conversations to define positioning and messaging that differentiates Synack in the cyber security market and resonates with each buyer segment.
  • Pricing, packaging & go-to-market - Own the pricing and packaging for your portfolio, and lead the launch strategy and cross-functional execution that grow product adoption in the marketplace.
  • Campaign strategy - Set the campaign strategy and key messages for your products and target markets; partner with demand generation to educate the market, build the Synack brand, and generate pipeline.
  • Market & competitive intelligence - Track the threat landscape, competitors, analysts, trade shows, and industry groups to be the expert in your market, and translate those insights into positioning, messaging, and go-to-market decisions for your portfolio.
  • Content & thought leadership - Write and create high-impact marketing material-data sheets, presentations, web copy, videos, and customer-facing narratives that make complex security concepts clear.
  • Sales enablement - In conjunction with our sales enablement team, build the tools, training, and value narratives that help the sales team communicate our value proposition and win more opportunities.
  • AI & innovation - Bring an AI-forward, experimental mindset to the craft-championing Synack's agentic AI story (including Sara) in-market, and putting AI agents and modern tools to work to sharpen your research, content, and campaign velocity.

Who you are

  • High-energy and driven: you bring momentum, optimism, and enthusiasm to everything you touch, and you thrive in a fast-paced, startup-mode environment.
  • Dedicated and committed: you take real ownership from strategy through execution, work hard, and follow through to done, even when it is hard.
  • Accountable: you own your outcomes, work diligently, measure your impact, and hold yourself to a high bar without needing to be asked.
  • Insatiably curious, especially about AI: you actively explore new AI tools, agents, and techniques, ask sharp questions, and quickly turn what you learn into better ways of working.

Here's what you'll need

  • 8+ years of B2B product marketing experience, ideally in cybersecurity, security software, or technical infrastructure.
  • A track record of understanding buyers and developing crisp positioning and content that resonates with technical and executive audiences.
  • An analytical mindset with the ability to grasp, simplify, and translate complex technical capabilities into clear customer benefits.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership-able to build consensus and drive alignment across product, sales, and marketing for maximum market impact.
  • Stellar writing and interpersonal skills with a high attention to detail and an eye for quality.
  • Highly creative energy, a drive for innovation, and a genuine passion for the craft.
  • Enthusiasm for AI and a bias for experimentation-hands-on with AI tools and agentic workflows (AI agents) to work smarter and to tell a differentiated, credible AI story.
  • Bachelor's degree; MBA is a plus.

Nice to Have

  • Direct experience marketing security products such as penetration testing, vulnerability management, offensive security, or cloud/application security.
  • Fluency in how security buyers-CISOs, security engineers, and AppSec/DevSecOps teams-evaluate and purchase solutions.
  • Experience launching products in a fast-growing or startup environment.
  • Analyst relations (e.g., Gartner, Forrester, GigaOM) and structured competitive-intelligence experience.

What Success Looks Like (First 6-12 Months)

  • You've become the go-to expert on your products and buyers, and the broader team relies on your understanding of the customer.
  • You've shipped refreshed positioning and a messaging framework for your portfolio that sales and marketing use consistently.
  • You've led at least one successful product launch, end to end, with measurable adoption and pipeline impact.
  • Sales has enablement they actively use, and you can point to opportunities it helped advance.
  • You've established a repeatable cadence for market and competitive intelligence that informs roadmap and GTM decisions.
