Job description

SUMMARY: Intermediate level position. Performs skilled work in the preparation & storage of prill. Operates various manual & automated equipment. Ensures product meets all specifications. Ensures work areas are safe, neat, clean & ready for production. Work is performed under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Advises the BP Manager in a timely fashion of repairs / equipment issues that adversely effects equipment performance
  • Advises the BP Manager in a timely fashion of process issues that result in quality or out of spec issues
  • Assist maintenance with Body Prep equipment repairs as necessary
  • Checks & empties dust from dust collectors as necessary
  • Checks & empties hoppers as necessary
  • Checks & reports silo levels as necessary
  • Checks, logs & reports required data pertaining to emission conditions of dust collection equipment in Body Prep area
  • Cleans magnets & screens according to current work instructions
  • Completes all required reports, logs, etc. accurately, neatly, completely & timely
  • Follow all safety policies
  • Follow all standard work instructions
  • Keeps accurate report / log of equipment &/or process issues
  • Keeps accurate reports on volume of material processed &/or consumed
  • Maintain safe & clean working environment at all times, conducts general housekeeping in assigned areas

  • Properly fills silos with crude raw materials from bunkers & maintains a safe inventory level of raw materials in crude material silos
  • Receives, reviews, verifies raw material deliveries & processes shipping documents to ensure proper materials have been delivered
  • Unloads, transports & stores materials as required
  • Adds correct size & quantity of media to MMC modules per current work instructions
  • Checks, controls & records slurry parameters in storage tanks
  • Completes & logs media checks according to current work instructions
  • Ensures that all slip production meets required specifications
  • Ensures that correct batch formula is used per current specifications
  • Keeps accurate reports on volume of slip produced & consumed
  • Maintains slip inventory via scheduled slip tank measurements & determining necessary MMC start/stop schedule
  • Operates automated silo unloading, batching, conveying & feeding system
  • Operates automated multi-stage continuous ball mill (MMC) in the preparation of body slip
  • Operates raw material storage, handling & processing equipment including front-end loader, continuous mill, etc. as necessary
  • Operates slip handling systems, including but not limited to various pumps, hoses, tanks, sieves, etc.
  • Assist with training of Level I & II Operators as necessary
  • Checks, controls & records prill moisture according to current work instructions
  • Checks, controls & records process water parameters in storage tanks
  • Completes & logs prill scale calibration according to current work instructions
  • Ensures that all prill production meet required specifications
  • Maintains prill inventory via scheduled prill silo measurements & determining necessary spray dryer start/stop schedule
  • Monitors Level I & II activities, suggests options for improved results
  • Operates automated blunging system, controls & maintains materials within specifications
  • Operates automated prill humidity device according to current work instructions
  • Operates automated prill handling, conveying & storage systems
  • Operates automated spray drying system (ATM) in the preparation of prill
  • Operates various devices per current work instructions to characterize product ; ie. thermal balance, digital scale, dryer, rotap, etc.
  • Perform ATM nozzle maintenance, ensure nozzles are in proper working order at all times
  • Troubleshoot / solve basic process & quality problems

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to work productively in a team environment, develop & maintain effective working relationships with team members
  • Ability to understand & follow oral & written instructions
  • Ability to interface with PC for data entry of process control parameters
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to maintain focus while working individually
  • Ability to operate a forklift

  • Ability to recognize work area hazards & take measures to avoid them
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Basic knowledge of the occupational hazards involved & the safety precautions necessary for proper handling of the materials used in the Body Prep Dept
  • Basic knowledge of the types of material being handled
  • Basic knowledge of inventory practices
  • Knowledge & willingness to learn, support & implement Florida Tile training methods as well as policies & procedures
  • Knowledge of precautions necessary for ensuring safe work environment for self & team members
  • Must have High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have physical condition & agility for performing strenuous manual labor
  • Professional conduct required, including excellent attendance, exemplary contribution/performance & other desirable behaviors such as positive attitude etc.
  • Requires wearing a respirator as needed, requires a clean-shaven face. Must pass the pulmonary medical exam & fit test
  • Utilize communication skills to effectively communicate in verbal & written form with peers, Dept Mgr, etc.
  • Ability to make complicated decisions & plan detailed work priorities
  • Ability to rotate as necessary with Level I & II Operators
  • Assist with training Level I & II Operators as necessary
  • Interpret process control & QC information, charts, etc. & make basic process adjustments as necessary to ensure product compliance with current standards
  • Minimum six months experience as BP Opr II
  • Utilize troubleshooting skills to help solve departmental issues
