ESS Specialist Technician - Energy Storage Systems, Generators & Light Towers
Power and Light (PAL) is a division within Atlas Copco's Power Technique business area. It develops, manufactures, and markets light towers, generators, and energy storage solutions for a wide range of industries including construction, mining, oil & gas, and rental. The division operates globally under several brands.
In this role, the ESS Specialist Technician supports the Application Engineering Manager - Power and Light in the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of energy storage systems (ESS), generators, and hybrid power solutions across North America (US and Canada).
The primary objective is to ensure reliable system operation and high customer satisfaction by providing hands-on technical support, diagnosing and resolving system issues, and supporting field service activities. The technician works closely with service teams, engineering, and customers to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable system performance in real-world applications.
As part of the ongoing energy transition, this role contributes to the successful deployment and operation of sustainable and hybrid power solutions, supporting customers in reducing operational costs and environmental impact.
You will
  • Report into the Application Engineering Manager - Power and Light in our US Customer Center
  • Through direct field experience, the ESS specialist technician provides feedback to engineering teams to support continuous product improvement and enhanced system reliability..
  • The primary objective is to ensure reliable system operation and high customer satisfaction by providing hands-on technical support, diagnosing and resolving system issues, and supporting field service activities. The technician works closely with service teams, engineering, and customers to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable system performance in real-world applications.
  • Support warranty investigations and assist in root cause analysis of system failures
  • Assist in troubleshooting new product releases, prototype units, and production machines as required
  • Collaborate with internal teams (service, engineering, product development) and external partners (customers, suppliers, vendors) to resolve technical issues

  • The successful candidate must hold Technical diploma or degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field
  • Equivalent hands-on experience in power systems, generators, or energy storage systems is acceptable
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills in electrical systems, controls, and hybrid power solutions
  • Experience with power systems, generators, or battery energy storage systems (BESS)
  • Knowledge of PLCs, controllers (e.g., DEIF), and communication protocols such as Modbus and CAN
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools, multimeters, and software interfaces for system analysis and troubleshooting
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, service teams, and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic proficiency with computers and software tools (Microsoft Office, service platforms, diagnostic tools)
  • Positive attitude with a proactive approach to troubleshooting and continuous improvement
  • Minimal travel within Canada and the United States is expected (30-60% of the time).
