Position Overview
As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) at Atlas Technica, you will serve as a senior, client-facing technical advisor working directly with prospective and existing clients to evaluate their technology environments and identify opportunities for improvement. This role is focused on conducting technical discovery, operational assessments, and gap analyses to uncover risks, inefficiencies, and modernization opportunities across client environments.
The FDE works closely with clients to understand how their technology supports their business and where improvements can be made across infrastructure, security, cloud, and IT operations. Based on these findings, the FDE develops clear recommendations and strategic technology roadmaps designed to improve reliability, security, scalability, and operational maturity.
This role also partners closely with Atlas sales, solutions, engineering, and delivery teams to translate assessment findings into practical implementation strategies and well-defined engagements. The Forward Deployed Engineer acts as a trusted technical advisor to clients while helping Atlas identify opportunities where our services can provide meaningful and lasting value.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct technical discovery sessions with prospective and existing clients to understand their infrastructure, security posture, operational processes, and business requirements.
  • Perform comprehensive technology assessments and gap analyses across infrastructure, cloud platforms, identity systems, security controls, and IT operations.
  • Evaluate client environments that may include Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, endpoint management, networking, backup and recovery, identity systems, and cybersecurity tooling.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies, security risks, architectural limitations, and opportunities for modernization.
  • Develop actionable recommendations and strategic technology roadmaps aligned with client needs and industry best practices.
  • Translate complex technical findings into clear summaries and recommendations for both technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • Partner with sales and solutions teams during early-stage client engagements to help shape potential project scopes and solution strategies.
  • Collaborate with Professional Services and engineering teams to ensure proposed solutions align with Atlas delivery capabilities and technical standards.
  • Participate in remote and onsite client engagements to conduct in-depth discovery and assessments when required.
  • Document assessment findings, recommendations, risks, and proposed improvement initiatives in a clear and structured manner.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor during client discovery sessions, strategic discussions, and early-stage engagements.
  • Identify opportunities for Atlas Technica services to improve clients' operational maturity, security posture, and overall technology performance.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies, cybersecurity trends, and industry best practices relevant to financial services organizations.
  • Provide feedback to internal teams on recurring client challenges and market needs to help strengthen Atlas service offerings, methodologies, and internal playbooks.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, systems engineering, solution architecture, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong experience across Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, networking, identity platforms, endpoint management, and modern security technologies.
  • Experience conducting technical assessments, infrastructure reviews, security evaluations, or operational maturity assessments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex technology environments and identify practical improvement opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Experience supporting technical discovery, pre-sales engagements, or client advisory work within a consulting, MSP, or professional services environment.
  • Strong documentation and presentation skills, including experience producing technical assessment reports, executive summaries, and roadmap recommendations.
  • Deep understanding of modern IT architecture, including hybrid cloud environments, identity security, endpoint management, networking, and security controls.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with sales, solutions, delivery, engineering, and leadership teams.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for onsite client engagements as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with financial services organizations, hedge funds, investment firms, or other regulated environments.
  • Experience working within a Managed Service Provider (MSP), consulting firm, or professional services organization.
  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CISSP, or similar.
  • Experience designing or evaluating cloud migrations, security transformations, infrastructure modernization initiatives, or technology operating models.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks and operational requirements relevant to financial services organizations.
  • Experience with enterprise platforms and technologies such as Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Intune, Azure security services, or similar tools.
