Super Rink Operations Manager

Position Summary

The Super Rink Operations Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Super Rink by supervising the operations team, maintaining high-quality ice conditions, and ensuring the facility is safe, clean, and well-maintained. This position provides hands-on leadership for Facility Specialists, Ice Technicians, Zamboni Drivers, and custodial staff while coordinating daily maintenance activities and supporting exceptional customer experiences for patrons, athletes, staff, and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ice Operations

  • Lead daily ice operations to ensure safe, consistent, and high-quality ice conditions.
  • Monitor and maintain ice quality, thickness, and temperature.
  • Ensure routine maintenance is performed on ice resurfacing equipment and coordinate preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor refrigeration and ice plant systems and communicate maintenance needs to leadership.
  • Assist with troubleshooting ice-making equipment and coordinate repairs as needed.

Facility Operations & Maintenance

  • Direct the daily work of the operations team to ensure maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and to established standards.
  • Perform and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance for the facility.
  • Assist with the maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building systems.
  • Identify facility maintenance needs and communicate recommendations for repairs or improvements.
  • Maintain high standards for facility cleanliness, appearance, and operational readiness.

Staff Leadership

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and coaching for Facility Specialists, Ice Technicians, and custodial staff.
  • Schedule, assign, and prioritize daily work assignments.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment focused on accountability, safety, and customer service.
  • Ensure staff follow operational procedures and safety standards.
  • Assist with employee training and onboarding.

Safety and Compliance

  • Promote a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Follow and reinforce established safety procedures and emergency response protocols.
  • Assist with required inspections, recordkeeping, and maintenance documentation.
  • Respond to facility emergencies and operational issues as needed.

Inventory and Operational Support

  • Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, chemicals, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist with purchasing routine maintenance materials and supplies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs.

Event Support

  • Coordinate facility setup and teardown for games, tournaments, practices, and special events.
  • Ensure the operations team is prepared to support scheduled events and daily programming.
  • Collaborate with arena leadership to provide outstanding service to customers, user groups, and tenants.
  • Provide on-call operational support during major events and facility emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Experience operating ice resurfacing equipment and maintaining ice surfaces.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Technical degree or certification in refrigeration, HVAC, facilities management, or a related field.
  • Boiler's License.
  • Certified Ice Technician (CIT) designation.
  • Experience working in municipal, recreational, or sports facilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop staff.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Knowledge of ice arena operations and industry best practices.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in cold environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as required.

Work Environment

This position works in a recreation and sports facility environment, including exposure to cold temperatures, mechanical equipment, cleaning chemicals, noise, and varying weather conditions when working outdoors.

Work Schedule and Compensation

  • This is a full-time, salaried position.
  • The typical work schedule is 45-50 hours per week, depending on facility needs, events, seasonal demands, and maintenance activities.
  • Compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Hiring range is $70,000-$85,000 annually.
  • Due to the nature of arena operations, this position requires a flexible schedule and may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Reports To: Assistant Director of Operations

Supervises: Facility Specialists, Ice Technicians, Zamboni Drivers, Custodial Staff (as applicable)
