Software Engineering Mountain View, CA (HQ)
About the Company:
X is Alphabet's moonshot factory. We are a diverse group of inventors and entrepreneurs who build and launch technologies that aim to improve the lives of millions, even billions, of people. Our goal: 10x impact on the world's most intractable problems, not just 10% improvement. We approach projects that have the aspiration and riskiness of research with the speed and ambition of a startup.
About the team:
We're X's moonshot for the global supply chain, applying AI to reduce waste, fragility, and inefficiency. We're an agile team of experienced AI researchers, software engineers, and entrepreneurs working with visionary partners and customers around the world to make sure everyone has sustainable and reliable access to the food, medicine, clothing, and other goods and services they need.
We're looking for people who are passionate about revolutionizing the global supply chain to join us at this critical growth stage. You'll be part of a fast-paced team that has the agility and impact of an early stage company, while building on world-class Google AI technology.
About the role:
You'll play a pivotal full-stack software engineering role, designing, building, and deploying cutting-edge AI systems. This role requires a deep passion for problem-solving and experimentation, moving across the full range of applied software engineering from initial prototyping to building full-scale, robust solutions. While you will primarily focus on core product development, you will also serve as a critical bridge between cutting-edge AI research and real-world enterprise applications.
How you will have 10X impact:
  • Develop and deliver high-quality, production-grade AI enterprise software across the entire stack during the development lifecycle, from ideation and architectural design to development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance in complex enterprise environments
  • Help drive and execute key decisions on software architecture and features
  • Develop experiences that inspire confidence, delight and resonate with end users, and encourage adoption and trust
  • Proactively identify opportunities for maximizing software business impact through leveraging advanced AI capabilities
  • Drive end-to-end technical initiatives, from initial application ideation and prototyping to full-scale development, delivery, and scaling within customer environments.
  • Approach your work with an ownership mindset, taking initiative and seeing problems through to resolution
  • Actively mentor teammates, sharing knowledge and helping others grow in their technical craft.

What you should have:
  • BS or equivalent practical experience in computer science, applied math, or a related field
  • 6+ years of professional experience designing, developing, maintaining, and releasing production-grade enterprise/business software
  • Exceptional breadth and depth in full-stack software engineering, including user interface development and working with RDBMS and NoSQL databases
  • Strong proficiency in Python development, with extensive experience in the latest Python toolchains and frameworks, including developing for various platforms (e.g., full-stack web applications, backend services, data pipelines) and LLM Python toolset (Pytorch, Langchain)
  • Experience with collaborative software development workflows and platforms including GitHub, agile development/scrum, unit testing, CI/CD, and production operations
  • Experience using LLMs to optimize software development processes and workflows
  • Experience integrating AI into enterprise software environments including LLMs, RAG, and Foundation Models, with an understanding of agentic behaviors, tool use, and reasoning capabilities
  • Experience with deploying and managing applications on major cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure) and an understanding of underlying infrastructure primitives (e.g., Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm charts)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adept at explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences in a clear and concise manner
  • Exceptional organization and planning skills
  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically about driving complex initiatives to completion
  • Ability to thrive and execute quickly in an environment of change and uncertainty

It'd be great if you also had these:
  • MS/PhD degree or equivalent practical experience in computer science, engineering or a related scientific or quantitative field
  • Experience integrating software with complex enterprise legacy systems, including ERP integration (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
  • Experience in startups or small-team environments
  • Experience in a leadership, mentorship, or lead engineer role for small technical teams, with a track record of owning outcomes end-to-end
