Job description

As a key member of one of our L&H Modelling Teams (US, APAC or EMEA), you will play an important role in updating SCOR's L&H Reserving modelling capabilities and delivering a transformation agenda for modelling tools and processes, ensuring best practice is adopted across the markets you work with.

You will be involved in the development of models and tools being used by Reserving Teams for their reporting across multiple reporting bases and jurisdictions.

You will work with stakeholders to understand their modelling and reporting requirements, build and test new capabilities in the model to meet those requirements, and perform model runs to quantify impacts of changes or produce new analyses. These financial analyses may then be presented to senior management.

You will also add value by continuously improving our end-to-end modelling processes and capabilities, with a focus on achieving full automation of the quarterly Model Production process, and creating innovative solutions to deliver on our ambition of operational excellence.

In addition, the role will also support key stakeholder relationships, which may include IT and Data functions, Experience Analysis, Pricing, In-force management, and other Finance teams.

As a leading global reinsurer, SCOR offers its clients a diversified and innovative range of reinsurance and insurance solutions and services to control and manage risk. Applying "The Art & Science of Risk," SCOR uses its industry-recognized expertise and cutting-edge financial solutions to serve its clients and contribute to the welfare and resilience of society in around 160 countries worldwide.

Working at SCOR means engaging with some of the best minds in the industry - actuaries, data scientists, underwriters, risk modelers, engineers, and many others - as we work together to find solutions to pressing challenges facing societies.

As an international company, our common culture is defined by "The SCOR Way." Serving both to build momentum that drives the Group forward and as a compass to guide our actions and choices, The SCOR Way is anchored by five core values, reflecting the input of employees at all levels of the Group. We care about clients, people, and societies. We perform with integrity. We act with courage. We encourage open minds. And we thrive through collaboration.

SCOR supports inclusion and the diversity of talents, and all positions are open to people with disabilities.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in insurance or reinsurance working in a valuation / reserving, cashflow analysis or actuarial modelling context
  • Either pursuing actuarial exams actively and has made good progress, or holds an actuarial academic qualification (e.g. actuarial undergraduate or master's degree)

  • Experience with actuarial database software, including SQL
  • Experience with programming languages, such as Python
  • Expertise with actuarial modelling platforms (Prophet, AXIS, MoSes, or equivalent) is an advantage
  • Strong understanding of Life and Health (re)insurance and reserving practices and products, exposure to IFRS17 or Solvency II preferred
  • Ability to understand and analyse financial impacts and drivers of change

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint)

Personal Competencies:

  • Enjoys working at pace, in a collaborative and open environment with global teams
  • Flexible and agile
  • Strong technical skill set, passionate about innovation and improving processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive, takes strong ownership, committed to delivery
  • Interest in career and skill development
  • Fluent English speaker

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, engineering, physics or equivalent quantitative field

  • Maintenance and development of the reserving models, including data inputs and results extraction processes. This includes testing, reviewing, validation and documentation of actuarial models within a controlled framework.
  • Develop a deep understanding of modelling processes within the relevant markets you support.
  • Deliver improvements to models/processes, developing prototypes and examples where relevant. E.g. Develop automation and analysis tools to support the quarter-end valuation process.
  • Ensuring continuous support, reliability and high performance of the model.
  • Partner closely with valuation and reporting teams, to work on specifications and model enhancements.
  • Provide modelling support for annual assumption reviews and quarterly production processes as needed.

  • Perform financial impact assessment and support the explanation of financial results and business impacts.
  • Support actuarial modelling projects at SCOR, and be a key contributor to other company-wide strategic projects.

  • Adhere to best practice in terms of coding standards, control & governance frameworks and documentation.
  • Actively engage in global modelling and innovation communities to exchange insights, foster collaboration, and share best practices that drive excellence and forward-thinking solutions. Build and maintain relationships with colleagues throughout the SCOR Group
