Job description

Job Title: Design Center Sales Manager

Location: Builders Warehouse, Kearney, & Grand Island

Department: Management

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Supervises: Kitchen, Bath, Countertop, Flooring, & Window Covering Commissioned Sales and related Inside Sales Support Staff.

Salary: Salary

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Summary of Position:

This person will be responsible for building, maintaining and managing the commissioned kitchen, bath, countertop, flooring, & window coverings sales teams in Kearney and Grand Island Nebraska. This position will directly report to the Chief Operating Officer.

Purpose: Create individual Business Plans with the team, focusing on retaining current and/or converting new customers, cross-selling within product categories and across Design Center & Contractor Sales Teams, and identifying new business opportunities to achieve sales and gross margin goals. Develop and maintain design center selling teams that demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism in the industry. Maximize profits in the kitchen, bath, countertop, & window covering sales areas in an environment that promotes cooperative teamwork and supports team and individual goals.

Requirements: The successful candidate will be an energetic, effective communicator who is able to function in a very independent sales environment. This position collaborates on a daily basis with the Brand and Assortment Manager, Purchasing Staff and the Marketing Manager.
  • Strong customer service, cross departmental team building, organizational, communication and presentation skills.
  • Recruits, hires, motivates and trains team members to reach personal and company goals.
  • Co-ordinates with Management, other division managers, and store managers to develop pricing strategies to service key accounts.
  • Works with Management to determine means to maximize services and resources of different divisions.
  • Creates and executes One Year Plans, conducts P&L reviews, and provides written feedback to team members.
  • Develops annual sales and gross margin budget and goals in conjunction with Management and monitors progress towards goals.
  • Active team participant with key accounts and assists in negotiating high volume sales agreements.
  • Sets and manages Leads/Targets with sales reps
  • Daily coaching with sales team on lead conversion
  • Challenges sales reps to stretch beyond their previous accomplishments
  • Works directly with Pro-sales leadership to cross-pollinate leads & customers
  • Community engagement & marketing strategy, including but not limited to Kearney Area Home Builders Association, Chamber of Commerce events, & home shows
  • Handling and resolving customer complaints regarding a product or service
  • Works with the Marketing Manager to promote the team and the company, and provides input (job site photos, etc.) to the Marketing Manager as directed.
  • Under the guidance of the Brand and Assortment Manager, works with the Purchasing team to facilitate our vendor outreach plan and VPP (financial support) plans.
  • Analyses sales data to identify opportunities for improvement. Provides data and insights into product and vendor selection to assist the Brand and Assortment manager and the Purchasing Team.
  • Works with the Brand and Assortment Manager, who staffs and directs the showroom team and provides that showroom team with support and feedback as requested.Monitors credit and co-ordinates collection efforts in conjunction with Accounts Receivable and Management on all new and current accounts including involvement in lien rights when needed.
  • Regularly accompanies representatives on customer visits to assist and monitor sales activity.
  • Budgets and administers any sales incentive programs.
  • Structures programs to motivate sales personnel and encourage increased sales.
  • Proactively recommends adjustments to product line and pricing to remain competitive in the marketplace.
  • Helps create and participate in company and vendor training programs. Fosters an environment of constant learning through vendor product knowledge events and planned team educational opportunities.
  • Be a mentor โ€“ Train and help new Team Members to adapt and succeed at Builders.
  • Maintains and promotes a safe working environment and follows all safety and OSHA rules.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures.

**NOTE: These are the essential, but not limited, functions of the Design Center Sales Manager position. Management has the discretion to add to or change the duties to be performed by this manager.

Experience Required:

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in the industry in a competitive, independent, and high-volume sales atmosphere with preferred emphasis on design center related products (Lighting, Cabinets, Flooring, Millwork) to homeowners or contractors.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (365)

Essential Abilities:

  • Develops and executes Business Plans to capitalize on trade and product opportunities. Executes strategies to optimize the penetration of product introductions and special promotions in the assigned market.
  • Develops a value-added, productive working relationship with team members by proactively managing the Business Plan to establish credibility and respect through being accessible, providing solutions to business opportunities, providing follow-up for customer concerns and leveraging the Builders brand to promote the customerโ€™s business.
  • Help to manage subcontracted turnkey programs by managing documentation and conduct on site inspection as needed.
  • Conduct after-sales customer service surveys and compile information to be communicated for locations and individual sales team members.
  • Establishes credibility and respect with team members and targeted accounts by conducting business consistent with Builders Warehouseโ€™s Vision, Values and Strategies.
  • Meets monthly or more frequently, as needed, with Management to update progress on Business Plans, monitors and tracks market progress, assesses the marketplace for additional opportunities and adjusts activities as needed.
  • Participates and/or makes presentation at local market meetings to provide trade and product expertise to customers.
  • Performs duties efficiently within established budgets and spending guidelines.
  • Attend training to develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills.
