Job description

Associated Fire Protection is seeking a skilled Fire Extinguisher Shop and Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a Fire Extinguisher Shop and Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for performing repair, testing, maintenance, and recharge of fire extinguishers and well as maintaining the shop and office.

Essential Functions- including but not limited to:
  • Perform repair, testing and recharge of fire extinguishers, as well as other types of fire protection equipment and systems as needed in accordance with NFPA, local and state codes.
  • Assist with deliveries, and the loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Maintain building and grounds cleanliness and organization on a daily basis.
  • Open and close shop as needed.
  • Pull material for jobs as required.
  • Perform fire extinguisher training as needed.
  • Assist with the installation and maintenance of both portable and fire suppression systems as needed.
  • Interact with customers, co-workers, vendors, and others on the job in a professional manner.
  • Follow safety procedures, ensuring all work is being done in accordance with safety and company policy and procedures and in accordance with code.
  • Communicate with customers to review work and answer any service, quality or technical questions.
  • Other job specific functions may be required depending on level.

General Functions
  • This position includes a lot of interaction with customers and coworkers. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively and enjoy collaboration with others.
  • Must be able to keep appointments and show up to work on time.
  • Must be able to follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • The successful candidate should read and be aligned with company's mission statement, vision and values.
  • Depending on skill level, the successful candidate must be able to manage, lead and mentor people.

Requirements
Qualifications, Experience and Education- including but not limited to:
  • Extensive knowledge of construction best practices, equipment maintenance, and use, and OHSA guidelines is preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain any licenses or certifications as required in the area that you are working.
  • Experience working with fire protection and suppression systems is preferred.
  • Perform simple tasks independently.
  • Knowledge of local and national fire protection codes, including but not limited to NFPA.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Computer, phone and tablet literate.
  • Ability to perform physical and mental functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and or any other applicable background checks or screens.
  • Well organized, self-motivated, flexible and a team player.
  • Must be able to drive to and from jobs and have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
  • Emergency Service shifts are a requirement for this job.
  • Ability to work on Job sites that may include construction sites and other locations where personal protective equipment will be required, and work in confined spaces.
  • The position has frequent periods of stress.
  • Job sites may include schools, hospitals, jails, pharmaceutical companies and other companies that may require additional background checks and medical and drug screens.
