About Us
Georgia Highlands College is a multi-campus, state college member of the University System of Georgia. Founded in 1970 as Floyd Junior College, it now serves more than 6,000 students in Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama across its five locations in Rome, Cartersville, Marietta, and Dallas. Job Summary
The Student Work Study Writing Center Assistant provides support for various functions at the Georgia Highlands College Writing Center.
Responsibilities
  • Understand, support, and carry out the college's mission, vision, and values and comply with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies
  • Provide one-on-one writing consultations for students across disciplines
  • Ensure peers maintain ownership of their work by teaching students to recognize and correct writing skills independently
  • Support peers through all stages of the writing process: Brainstorming, Revising, Research, Editing, etc
  • Foster critical thinking, confidence, and writing independence
  • Conclude each session with careful documentation ensuring all data in a timely fashion
  • Communicate with Writing Center leadership about challenging or unique situations and documenting them when necessary
  • Maintain and support an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive learning environment
  • Adapt tutoring strategies to meet the needs of individual students by respecting diverse backgrounds and learning styles
  • Participate in required training, staff meetings, and professional development
  • Assist with Writing Center promotion across campuses by conducting or supporting various workshops, outreach, and classroom visits

Perform other Writing Center-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and current GHC undergraduate student with:¿
  • Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) currently being met¿
  • Current-Year FAFSA on file with all verifications an any other requirements complete¿
  • Currently enrolled for at least six (6) credit hours (in most instances)¿
  • Some prior experience is preferred but not required.¿ Job specific training will be provided.¿

Proposed Salary
$12.00 per hour

  • Ability to demonstrate prompt and regular attendance
