The GW Writing Center's approach focuses on creating a dialogue between writer and consultant, and collaborating to refine the writer's argument, organization, use of examples, clarity and audience.
In addition to offering sessions out of our central location at Gelman Library in Foggy Bottom, the center operates satellite locations across GW's campuses. We also employ students as consultants and create resources for faculty and the broader GW writing community.
Position Specific Summary
• Welcomes visitors, verifies appointments, and directs clients to their scheduled consultant.
• Explains and supports Writing Center policies and guidelines.
• Answers emails and voicemails, and schedules appointments for the center.
• Manages and prioritizes time-sensitive email correspondence with clients, admin, and staff.
• Updates and manages appointments using the GWWC's scheduling and video software.
• Handles opening and closing procedures, including locking and unlocking the Center, making sure the Center is clean, and restocking any necessary supplies.
• Performs administrative tasks including monitoring office supplies, IT requests, and facilities concerns.
• Participates in paid staff training and staff meetings.
Standard Position Description
The student will be the first point of contact for visitors and customer service inquiries to the department. Tasks may include: greeting visitors, responding to in person, phone, email inquiries, provide customer service to other students, faculty, and staff; direct inquiries to the appropriate resources as needed; and assist with other office tasks. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific office needs.
