What is an associate technical architect?

An Associate Technical Architect is an entry- to mid-level professional who helps design and implement technology solutions for organizations. They typically work under the guidance of senior architects, assisting with system architecture, integration, and ensuring that IT projects align with business goals. Their responsibilities may include analyzing requirements, creating technical documentation, and supporting the development team in delivering scalable, efficient solutions. This role serves as a stepping stone toward becoming a full Technical Architect.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate technical architect?

To excel as an Associate Technical Architect, you need a solid background in software development, systems design, and architecture principles, often backed by a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with architectural frameworks, cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure), and relevant certifications like TOGAF or AWS Certified Solutions Architect is highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are crucial for designing scalable solutions, bridging technical and business requirements, and ensuring project success.

What are some common challenges associate technical architects face when managing project requirements?

Associate Technical Architects often encounter challenges in balancing technical feasibility with business goals, particularly when project requirements evolve or are not fully defined. They must work closely with stakeholders to clarify needs, anticipate integration issues, and ensure that architectural decisions align with both short-term deliverables and long-term scalability. Navigating conflicting priorities and adapting to changing technologies are also typical hurdles, requiring strong communication and problem-solving skills. Regular collaboration with developers, business analysts, and senior architects is essential to address these challenges effectively.

What is the difference between Associate Technical Architect vs Software Engineer?

They are seeking a Client-Facing Senior Technical Architect specializing in Dynamics 365 ERP implementations to lead the design and delivery of high-value solutions, ensuring exceptional quality and client satisfaction across complex projects.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Own the target architecture for D365 F&O and integrated applications across Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) and Azure (Functions, Logic Apps, API Management, Service Bus, Event Grid, Key Vault).
โ€ข Select and apply the right integration patterns (Dualโ€‘write/Dataverse, OData, DMF, File/Batch, Eventโ€‘driven, APIโ€‘first) and design secure, versioned APIs.
โ€ข Design data & analytics strategies (BYOD/Export to Data Lake, ADLS, Fabric/Synapseโ€‘ready models, Power BI semantic models) to enable reporting, automation, and AI.
โ€ข Embed nonโ€‘functional requirements (performance, reliability, security, compliance, operability, cost) with clear SLOs and testable acceptance criteria.
โ€ข Serve as the primary clientโ€‘facing technical lead from discovery through goโ€‘live and hypercare; guide backlog, scope, estimates, and technical risk mitigation.
โ€ข Lay the foundation for delivery by setting up environments, integration patterns, security, and DevOps pipelines that enable teams to deliver features quickly and safely
โ€ข Ensure technical deliverables meet rigorous quality standards, align with strategic objectives, and foster a referenceable client experience that strengthens Croweโ€™s reputation.

โ€ข Proactively identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration with broader Crowe Technical specialists and Microsoft FastTrack to enhance project outcomes.
โ€ข Build ERP and integration solutions that surface the right data in the right way, enabling Copilot, reporting, and advanced analytics.
โ€ข Embed automation and intelligence into processes to improve efficiency, quality, and decision-making.
โ€ข Help clients adopt Copilot and AI capabilities in a controlled, value-driven manner, balancing innovation with compliance and security.
โ€ข Shape proposals/SoWs, lead client demos and technical deepโ€‘dives, and contribute to estimates and delivery approaches.
โ€ข Create reusable accelerators, reference architectures, and bestโ€‘practice playbooks, mentor engineers and consultants.
Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข 8+ years designing and delivering enterprise solutions on Microsoft platforms; 5+ years with D365 F&O/AX and/or CE (at least 2โ€“3 full cycle implementations in an architect or lead role).
โ€ข Bachelor's degree
โ€ข Hands on knowledge of D365 F&O extensibility (X++ review competence, extension patterns, data entities, DMF), environment strategy, and LCS.
โ€ข Proven architecture experience across Power Platform (modelโ€‘driven/canvas apps, Power Automate flows, governance/ALM) and Azure integration services (Functions, Logic Apps, API Management, Service Bus/Event Grid).
โ€ข Strong integration track record (OData/REST, webhooks/events, batch/ETL via ADF/Fabric, messageโ€‘based patterns).
โ€ข Demonstrated ownership of nonโ€‘functional design (security, performance, resiliency, observability) with measurable SLOs and test strategies.
โ€ข Production experience with ALM (solutions, pipelines, Git, unit/automated UI tests).
โ€ข Strong grasp of security & governance (Entra ID, RBAC, DLP, environment strategy).
โ€ข Microsoft certifications (one or more): Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Apps Solution Architect Expert, Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Consultant Associate, Power Platform Solution Architect Expert / Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Preferred:
โ€ข Experience with Dataverse/Dualwrite, D365 Supply Chain/Commerce/CE integrations, or Manufacturing domain depth.
โ€ข Familiarity with Copilot Studio (plugins, orchestration, connectors) and RAG patterns.
โ€ข People management experience: team leadership, coaching, performance feedback, and resource planning.
