Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the development and integration of autonomous machine systems within Caterpillar’s Loading, Dozing & Compaction Application Team. This role focuses on defining system requirements, architecture, integration, and validation activities for semi-autonomous and fully autonomous machine solutions.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in systems engineering, product development, embedded systems integration, and autonomous machine technologies, along with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional engineering teams in a highly technical environment.


Position Summary
The Systems Engineer will be responsible for helping define requirements and system architecture for autonomous machine systems used in Surface Loading applications such as Wheel Loaders, Excavators, Hydraulic Mining Shovels, and Tracked Loaders.
This role involves close collaboration with software, hardware, systems integration, and validation teams to ensure scalable, reliable, and production-ready autonomous solutions.

Key Responsibilities
•    Define and develop system integration requirements for autonomous machine platforms. 
•    Decompose customer and business requirements into system-level technical requirements. 
•    Collaborate with machine systems teams to implement autonomous machine features. 
•    Support integration and validation activities for autonomous surface loading machines. 
•    Ensure traceability and documentation of system requirements and design decisions. 
•    Communicate system readiness, technical risks, and design trade-offs to stakeholders. 
•    Support the deployment of autonomous technologies on semi-autonomous and fully autonomous systems. 
•    Act as a subject matter expert for Surface Loading autonomous solutions. 
•    Participate in design, development, testing, and support of embedded electronic control and vision systems. 

Required Qualifications
Education
•    Bachelor’s Degree in: 
o    Engineering 
o    Computer Science 
o    Related Technical Field 
Experience
•    5–7 years of Systems Engineering experience 
•    Internship experience accepted 
•    Experience supporting product development teams involving software and hardware integration
