We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Associate System Administrator to join our IT Associate Experience team. This role is ideal for an early-career IT professional looking to build expertise in Microsoft 365 technologies, collaboration platforms, and enterprise systems administration. The primary focus of this position is supporting and administering Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Outlook, and SharePoint environments, while also providing occasional support for platforms such as Smartsheet and Airtable. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience supporting enterprise-level technologies, troubleshooting sophisticated issues, and contributing to ongoing modernization initiatives.

In the role of a Junior System Administrator, you'll develop your technical expertise. You will support critical collaboration and efficiency platforms used across the company. You'll work alongside experienced infrastructure professionals, gain exposure to enterprise-scale environments, and build a solid foundation for future growth within systems administration and cloud technologies.

Location: This is a remote position for candidates located within the Hampton Roads area, with occasional onsite support required in the Newport News, VA office approximately once every 8-12 weeks for maintenance activities, project work, team collaboration, or other business needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Team, Exchange Online, Microsoft 365, and SharePoint environments.
  • Support user account administration, mailbox management, distribution groups, shared mailboxes, and Microsoft 365 permissions.
  • Assist with administration and support of hybrid Exchange environments and Microsoft 365 services.
  • Investigate and resolve email delivery, calendar, collaboration, and access-related issues.
  • Provide occasional support for enterprise collaboration tools including Smartsheet and Airtable.
  • Monitor, prioritize, and resolve support requests while maintaining accurate documentation within ticketing systems.
  • Assist with system upgrades, migrations, platform enhancements, and technology rollouts.
  • Support routine system maintenance, backup processes, and operational health checks.
  • Partner with other IT teams to identify root causes and implement long-term solutions.
  • Document procedures, troubleshooting steps, and support knowledge for internal users and IT staff.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and occasional weekend maintenance activities, typically no more than two weekends per year.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, help desk, or infrastructure support.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, or Exchange Online.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Exchange administration and email systems.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory user and group management.
  • Exposure to PowerShell scripting and automation concepts.
  • Good ability to fix, analyze, and solve problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a customer-service mentality.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Must reside in the Hampton Roads area and be able to travel periodically to the Newport News office for onsite support.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Exchange Online and hybrid Exchange environments.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint Online administration and permissions management.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) and identity management concepts.
  • Experience with ServiceNow or other enterprise ticketing systems.
  • Exposure to Smartsheet, Airtable, or similar low-code/no-code business platforms.
  • Knowledge of ITIL concepts and incident management practices.
  • Experience with phone and contact center technologies such as Genesys or Cisco.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Fundamentals, Microsoft 365 Certified, Azure Fundamentals, or related credentials.
