Kemper is seeking to hire an Associate Developer to join the PolicyCenter Development team in the Jacksonville, Florida office. This position will be involved in full stack software development projects using Java and working towards learning Gosu and Guidewire development.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for multiple software development activities including design, development, building and testing of code. Closely work with Business Analysts and Lead Developers to understand the business requirement for implementing new system components, enhancements and fixing defects in support of existing/new applications.

  • Complete assigned training courses related to project specific work to be executed
  • Review and analyze existing Kemper applications
  • AbsorbKemper development and designbest practices as it relates to overall project goals.
  • Code as defined byKemper'sapproval
  • Review Python, Typescript, JavaScript, Java, and Angular code
  • Review and understand Kemper's CI/CD pipeline for AWS Cloud native services
  • Work with Technical Lead on templates of proposed changes
  • Implement changes with leadership sign-off
  • Work with leadership to execute Proof of Concepts
  • Discover and review AWS Best Practices
  • Discover and review Angular Best Practices
  • Discover and perform performance engineering and monitoring

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 1+ years of hands-on software development experience.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming language (Java)
  • Demonstrates working proficiency in a specific programming language
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
  • Basic understanding of AWS and cloud computing concepts(coursework, projects, or certifications).
  • Ability to code, unit test and debug moderately complex business applications.
  • Experience through coursework or projects with JavaScript (Node.js), Java, or Python.
  • Fundamental knowledge of web technologies and APIs.
  • Exposure to tools such as AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudFormation, or frontend frameworks (e.g., Angular)is a plus.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, web services, and microservices architectures.
  • Exposure to P&C insurance systems or platforms (e.g., Guidewire) is a strong plus.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies(Scrum/Kanban).
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • This position works on site in the Jacksonville, FL office
