Job description

Job Overview:
  • Software Developers play a pivotal role in crafting tools that enhance digital civic engagement and support our mission to drive progressive change. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining user-friendly applications that empower our audience, primarily using Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

NOTE: This is the stack we currently use, but we’re always open to technologists with different competencies who are eager to creatively use technology to challenge the status quo.

Responsibilities:
  • Ideate, design, and develop interactive, responsive, and accessible applications with the Strategy Department's development team.
  • Maintain and update existing digital tools, incorporating feedback and addressing any issues promptly.
  • Maintain written documentation of new digital tools.
  • Actively participate in brainstorming sessions and feedback reviews to contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Experiment with new technologies and approaches to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of our digital tools.
  • Attending Gen-Z for Change's weekly All Hands meeting and the Strategy Department's weekly meetings.
  • Initiate meetings and communicate consistently and proactively with the Director of Strategy as needed to maintain projects.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Portfolio of creative & technical projects
  • Experience developing back-end or full-stack applications
  • Experience in Python, including common libraries (e.g. numpy, requests, pandas, scrapy, selenium, etc.)
  • Experience with GitHub
  • Experience building & incorporating APIs into technical projects
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform
  • Familiarity with cloud computing & containerization
  • Willingness to pick up new technologies to expand the scope of digital organizing
  • Understanding and familiarity with grassroots organizing and social issues
  • Understanding of ongoing fights in the youth, labor, reproductive, climate, immigration, and/or tech spaces preferred
  • Curiosity, creative problem-solving skills, and a can-do attitude
