Primary Purpose of Position

The Associate Software Engineer, AI is a technical contributor responsible for supporting the development, testing, and maintenance of software applications and AI-enabled capabilities that support enterprise systems and digital products. This role works as part of a team to assist with implementing features and components across the application and data ecosystem while developing foundational software engineering and AI skills. The Associate Software Engineer applies established coding standards, development practices, and engineering principles under the guidance of senior team members to deliver reliable and maintainable solutions. The role collaborates with software engineers, architects, product teams, and data professionals to support the implementation of business and technical requirements. The Associate Software Engineer contributes to the integration of data and AI/ML capabilities into applications while gaining experience with modern software development methodologies and enterprise technology platforms. The Associate Software Engineer participates in coding, testing, code reviews, troubleshooting, and production support activities while continuously building technical expertise. This role is expected to demonstrate a commitment to learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement while responsibly utilizing AI-assisted engineering tools to enhance development, testing, debugging, and documentation activities.

Primary Duties and Accountabilities
  • Assist in the development, testing, and support of software applications, services, APIs, and AI-enabled features that support enterprise systems and digital products.
  • Contribute to implementing features and enhancements under the guidance of senior engineers while gaining experience with modern software development practices.
  • Support the development and testing of AI-enabled applications, including exposure to machine learning services, large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and related AI technologies.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, and ML engineers to support AI-driven solutions and enterprise applications.
  • Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools appropriately to improve development efficiency, testing, debugging, and documentation while following established engineering practices.
  • Develop clean, maintainable, and testable code following established coding standards and development guidelines
  • Learn and apply software engineering fundamentals, design patterns, security practices, and quality assurance processes
  • Follow responsible engineering practices when using AI-assisted development tools, including validating outputs and adhering to secure coding standards.
  • Contribute ideas and participate in efforts to improve software quality, development processes, and engineering efficiency through modern tools and practices.
  • Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and Agile development activities to build technical knowledge and engineering experience.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and contribute to technical solutions.
  • Assist with CI/CD pipelines, deployment activities, and automation initiatives under guidance from senior team members.
  • Support application monitoring, testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution activities.
  • Continuously develop technical skills in software engineering, cloud technologies, software architecture, and AI/ML concepts.
  • Actively seek feedback, participate in mentoring opportunities, and contribute to a collaborative and learning-focused team environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related technical field
  • Relevant experience in software development, application development, computer science, or related technical disciplines, internship, academic, research, or project-based experience
  • Foundational knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and basic system design concepts
  • Experience with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C#, JavaScript, or similar) through coursework, internships, projects, or professional experience
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including testing, debugging, source control, and collaborative development methodologies
  • Basic understanding of APIs, web services, databases, and modern application development concepts
  • Foundational knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP and interest in cloud-native application development
  • Exposure to AI/ML concepts, large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, or AI-powered application development
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills with the ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) and willingness to apply them responsibly within established engineering standards
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Agile project management methodologies and the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Internship, academic, research, or project experience developing software applications, APIs, user interfaces, or web-based solutions
  • Exposure to modern development frameworks and technologies such as React, Angular, .NET, Spring Boot, Node.js, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with Azure AI Services, Azure OpenAI, machine learning services, LLMs, embeddings, GenAI APIs, or AI-assisted application development
  • Exposure cloud technologies, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, or infrastructure automation concepts
  • Experience using relational or NoSQL databases and writing SQL queries
