Trinity Health IHA Medical Group is hiring a Software Engineer IV role to lead meaningful, high-impact engineering work in a healthcare environment, combining JavaScript development with intelligent automation to improve the daily experience of clinicians and administrative staff. As a technical leader in the Automation & Software Engineering team, you’ll own end-to-end delivery of internal solutions ranging from backend services and data integrations to user interfaces and automation that streamline complex administrative workflows, while setting engineering standards, mentoring teammates, and guiding critical design decisions.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Software Engineer IV is a lead-level software developer responsible for driving the strategic design, architecture, and delivery of complex applications and automation systems across the organization. This role requires expert-level proficiency in technologies such as Node.js, JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Vue.js, React.js), Python, and MSSQL, with the ability to architect modern, scalable and secure solutions across both full-stack and automation domains.

Depending on skills and project needs, the Software Engineer IV may focus on advanced automation using Python, enterprise-scale full-stack development. Engineers at this level play a pivotal role in the development of AI-driven tools, including enterprise-grade chatbots and intelligent workflow automation, helping shape the organization’s approach to technology-enabled transformation.

Operating with a high level of autonomy, the Software Engineer IV leads cross-functional initiatives, establishes coding standards and architectural principles, and guides platform-level decisions that impact multiple teams and systems. This role includes mentoring across engineering stacks, serving as a resource for complex problem-solving, and partnering with stakeholders to ensure technical initiatives align with strategic business goals. Through technical leadership and innovation, the Software Engineer IV ensures that the organization’s software and automation systems are robust, forward-thinking and designed to deliver long-term business value.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Defines and leads the architecture of complex, cross-functional software and automation systems, ensuring scalability, security and maintainability.
  2. Develops strategic approaches for AI-enabled applications, including enterprise-grade chatbots and intelligent workflow automation.
  3. Establishes, documents, and enforces engineering best practices across teams to promote consistency, quality and long-term maintainability.
  4. Designs, implements, and reviews mission-critical services using technologies such as Node.js, Python, and MSSQL, with a focus on performance and reliability.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience demonstrating advanced software engineering and architectural capabilities.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 7 years of professional software development experience, including significant contributions to system architecture, cross-functional initiatives, and enterprise-scale solutions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (ABILITIES & SKILLS):

  1. Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Python, and MSSQL, with a history of delivering scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
  2. Extensive experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js and React, including architectural design and performance optimization.
  3. Proven ability to design and implement RESTful APIs and microservices for enterprise applications.
  4. Deep understanding of Git-based workflows, automated testing strategies, and CI/CD pipelines in large-scale environments.
  5. Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML technologies, including Generative and Agentic AI (e.g., ChatGPT), into production systems.
  6. Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), including infrastructure design, deployment automation, and cost optimization.
  7. Strong grasp of application performance tuning, security best practices and advanced debugging techniques.
  8. Demonstrated success leading cross-functional engineering initiatives and mentoring developers across all levels.
  9. Experience driving technical strategy and aligning engineering efforts with organizational goals.
  10. Passion for innovation and continuous improvement, with a track record of evaluating and adopting emerging technologies.
  11. Ability to work effectively and develop good working relationships with various levels of organizational members and diverse populations including IHA staff, management, providers, provider and executive leadership, patients and family members, insurance carriers, vendors and Trinity Health.
